We love this cabin. Got in after dark on Friday, but knew it was an easy, downhill hike in.
We played on the frozen lake and hiked nearby Bear Mtn during the short daylight hours. Kids live being out at the cabin and I like the short commute from where we live.
Very tidy and well-kept.

We love this cabin. Got in after dark on Friday, but knew it was an easy, downhill hike in.

We camp here at the cabin several times each winter. We love being able to bring camp stuff in by snowmachines sure makes the trip easier for family’s with little kids. We had great ski trips around the lake and fires at night.

Nurses Cabin: The cabin is in incredible condition. Excellent location in a spectacular patch of wilderness. As a heads up, the turn off is very hard to see. The cabin can't be seen from the trail and there is just a faded piece of ribbon at knee height to indicate the split. From the trail, the cabin and the lake are obscured by a knoll, so if you notice this feature on your approach keep a close eye out for the ribbon. If you blow past it, the trail dead-ends and there is a spur trail down to the lake. Make a right at the lake front and backtrack maybe half a mile. Cabin is easy to see from the shore. Trail is otherwise very defined. There is one tough stretch towards the wilderness boundary that i think is intentionally kept rough to keep snow machines from sneaking in. We had to take our skies off for this stretch but other wise a pleasant skin in, with just the occasional downed tree. Props to the trail crew and to who ever does the cabin up keep. Can't wait to return, cant recommend enough

Access to each individual cabins varies. Some can be reached by hiking-in, while others require a boat or plane to access . In winter, a snowmachine may be necessary. Please refer to each specific cabin for information on amenities and accessibility.
Kenai National Wildlife Refuge: From Anchorage, take the Seward Highway south to the Sterling Highway; the eastern refuge boundary is at milepost 55 of the Sterling Highway. Another 5 miles from the boundary is the west entrance to the Skilak Wildlife Recreation Area. Continuing on to Soldotna will bring you to the refuge visitor center and headquarters, which is found by taking a left onto Funny River Road, then turning right (before the building supply store) onto Ski Hill Road.
Access to Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Cabins is via the Sterling Highway, with the eastern boundary of the refuge located at milepost 55. The Sterling Highway provides a route toward Soldotna, where the refuge visitor center is located.
