Virginia Lake is truly a special place on the Wrangell Distrct. The cabin layout, the beach, dock and proximity to Wrangell make it a place I’ll go again!

Virginia Lake is always a stunning location that never disappoints! During this visit, we had a family birthday party. Prior to our time there, the USFS had gone in and cut the grass/shrubs around the board walk, cleaned out the outhouse, and moved a derelict boat off of the small beach. (We had been there about a month before and these chores were due. It was amazing to roll up and see that the staff had done a great job tidying up the site.) The cabin was in really good condition, with extra supplies and food removed and wood present for splitting. It was a great day for our family and we will be back soon! Thank you to the Wrangell Ranger District for all you do!

The cabin is so large and comfortable. The wood stove worked great with plenty of wood. A new looking oil stove as well. Need to bring your own pads for the wood beds. We saw up to 11 common loons swimming together. We tried to catch trout but no keepers.

The cabin is on the east end of Virginia Lake, about 10 miles east of Wrangell. The lake is on the mainland (elevation 105 feet) above Eastern Passage.
The cabin is accessible by float plane. Virginia Lake is usually ice-free May to October. In fall, winter and early spring, the cabin may be inaccessible due to frozen lake surface (float planes cannot land). Please contact the Wrangell Ranger District at (907) 874-2323 for information prior to making reservations during these periods.

- Guests should be aware of potential dangers and prepare for extended stays due to poor weather.
- Guests are required to pack out all trash and food they bring.
- Guests should anticipate other users on the lake due to its accessibility.

- Guests must bring their own water supply or treat water from natural sources, as water is not provided.
Fires & fuel
- Guests must bring their own firewood, as it is not provided at the cabin.
- Guests should avoid moving firewood to prevent pest spread; purchase it near the destination.
