OPCNM is one of my favorite places. I've spent a lot of time in the park doing research, but this was the first time I've stayed at the main campground. Although the sites are near one another, there is a fair bit of desert scrub separating the sites (at least where I stayed) that gives you a decent bit of privacy. The flat gravel beds for the tents are really nice.

The campground and restrooms within are clean. My only complaint isn't solely to this campground but the park system nationwide and that is it should allow for reservations to be made at anytime of the day. This allowing those just traveling through to be able to pay for a spot the night they stay. That way there's no confusion with camp hosts the next morning when they are checking occupied spaces.

Coming here for 10 years. Always an excellent experience. Probably the most beautiful desert in the country. Campground is well maintained and the sites are spread out. Lots to do.

The campground and the park themselves were beautiful. We felt safe in the park and staying overnight. However, the park volunteers were borderline harassing us at the generator loop. They have strict hours and will wait at your rv door to remind you to turn it off the minute the hour turns. The rangers were very friendly and kind but their volunteers were not.

Enjoyed hiking the Estes Canyon trail again. One of our favorite hikes anywhere.
