Halfmoon Ranch was a delight. It rained 2 of the 3 days we stayed, but it was enjoyable watching the storms through the picture window in the kitchen. It was a bit chilly. The baseboard heaters are okay for the bedrooms, but the living room, dining room and kitchen were very cool. I would recommend some space heaters for the winter months. The ranch is very large and with only 2 people, it was an awful lot to clean for the next tenants. The 2 dogs loved roaming the large fenced yard and exploring the lot with us. The windmill needs oiling, it can be very loud and creepy at night. It just adds to the atmosphere! I think it would be an excellent place for a retreat with friends or family.

Wow what an amazing place. I stepped out of the car and was amazed at the “cabin” and the view behind it of the Dragoon Mountains, so much better than the pictures on the website. The cabin was not a cabin at all but a house that was as big as my house. The rooms were all big, spacious, and comfortable. It was just my husband and I and our two dogs. The dogs had a blast because the yards were so big, great for playing ball and frisbee. We basically went to relax but did hike around the property and up to the bench on the hill for the awesome vistas. The kitchen was well equipped except a toaster would have been a nice addition. The place is very private, the only drawback was the traffic on the dirt road that goes back to some cabins and a campground. The road isn’t too close and the people driving by can’t see you in the yard but the road sure kicks up a lot of dust which you’ll notice when you sweep up before leaving. We got a laugh out of the squeaky windmill, I think it’s haunted because every time we walked away from the cabin it would start squeaking for us to come home, like something out of a Stephen King book. We will definitely come back!

Half Moon Ranch is a lovely spot with good access to the Stronghold. Been here a few times and always enjoy the birds and wildlife.
It would be nice if the native grass was restored in the areas east of the ranch house where the new sidewalks went in.
And, bring your dishwashing soap!
And maybe leave a new container there for the next guests.

Great cabin! A little dusty, but awesome location and distribution. Close to great hiking. Lovely pond with what appears to be invasive species. Well stocked. Bring swifter wipes, if you'd like. Just a few plastic glasses available. Plenty of dishes etc

Policies & Rules
General
- Pets are NOT permitted inside or outside the cabin. Unfortunately, due to a history of pet owners inadequately cleaning up after their pets, pets are no longer allowed. Forest Service staff have limited time to complete weekly cabin cleaning. Cleaning service is not cost effective due to the rural location of the cabins. Eliminating the need to vacuum pet hair, neutralize odors, and pick up poop frees up staff time to cleaning cabin amenities and address repair needs.
- Access to the house is through a locked gate; the gate has a combination lock, and the house key is located in a lock box on the kitchen door. The combinations for the gate and the lock box are provided once a reservation is made.
- A cabin manual is located inside the cabin to answer specific questions during your stay as well as provide you with information on recreation opportunities in the area.
- Cleaning service is NOT provided. Before leaving, renters are expected to clean the cabin; this includes washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down countertops, cleaning bathrooms & showers, and removing ALL trash.
- Guests MUST provide some of their own supplies including: food, sleeping bags, linens, pillows, towels, dish soap, matches, a first aid kit, toilet paper and garbage bags.
- Please do NOT flush anything but toilet paper to prevent clogs or damage to the septic system.
- Keep the building and grounds clean to deter squirrel, mice, rats, bears, and other wildlife from the area.
- Cell phone coverage is usually available in the general area, but may be unreliable in the cabin.
- Off-Highway vehicle users should be aware that East Cochise Stronghold has only one road for vehicles. Due to heavy traffic by passenger cars, trucks, RVs, and trailers, it is not recommended for off-road vehicle use.
- The house is located in a desert environment; please be aware that scorpions, snakes and other insects may be present at any time.
- The access road leading into the cabin is passable by passenger car, but high clearance vehicles are recommended.
- The cabin is a no-smoking facility.
- Reservation dates subject to weather conditions.
- This cabin does not honor Golden Passport Discounts.
- A helispot is located at the far west end of the pasture; emergency crews may periodically use this site for emergency rescue operations.
