About Mather Campground
Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance.
Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery.
Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground..
The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

I have camped at Mather Campground many times. This stay was mid-December for two nights. The campground is clean and well-maintained and situated within a lovely pinon-juniper woodland. There is plenty of vegetative screening between the nicely-spaced sites. Restrooms are clean and the flush toilets and water was on, in spite of the pipeline break and water restrictions. Remember to keep trash and any food out of sight to help the wildlife stay wild.

We stayed here for a few nights at the beginning of November. The site itself was great — spacious, conveniently close to the restrooms (close enough to walk easily, but far enough that you couldn’t hear people going back and forth), and generally pretty quiet.
There were a few unpleasant moments with neighbors, but that’s always a bit of a gamble. You never know who you’ll end up next to — a calm, considerate person who respects their own and others’ comfort, or a group of guys who showed up with beer just for an overnight party; or maybe a couple with a clanking ladder and a van door constantly slamming; or that one guy who decides at 3 a.m. that everyone absolutely needs to hear his very loud packing routine.
All in all, the place itself is excellent — and hopefully, you’ll get lucky with your neighbors 🙂

I have camped at Mather Campground many times. This stay was mid-December for two nights. The campground is clean and well-maintained and situated within a lovely pinon-juniper woodland. There is plenty of vegetative screening between the nicely-spaced sites. Restrooms are clean and the flush toilets and water was on, in spite of the pipeline break and water restrictions. I have been camping here for years as a volunteer and now as a visitor and my experiences have always been good. Rangers at the kiosk were very accommodating even reminding me that seniors get a reduced rate. Campfires were not allowed at the time but that was ok. Did some biking and hiking while there. Some excellent bike paths that connect with the campground. Plan on coming again when the weather warms up.

Mather Campground is located within the park in Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim.
From the south entrance station: proceed for about three miles (3.1 mi) and turn left on Center Road. Travel 1/4 mi (.2.5 mi) and turn right onto Market Plaza Road. The campground is about one mile (1 mi) down Market Plaza Road on the right (Mather Campground Road).
From the east entrance station: follow the road 25 mi (24.9 mi) and turn left at the "T" intersection onto South Entrance Road. Travel about 1/2 mi (.5 mi) and turn right at the intersection onto Center Road. Travel 1/4 mi (.2.5 mi) and turn right onto Market Plaza Road. The campground is about one mile (1 mi) down Market Plaza Road on the right (Mather Campground Road). .
Highway access
Mather Campground is accessed via South Entrance Road from the south and from East Entrance Road from the east, both leading into the Grand Canyon National Park. The nearest major road is Arizona State Route 64, which connects to the South Rim area.
