About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Location was super convenient and close to facilities so I loved it. The campground itself was clean, spacious, peaceful, and safe. Transportation was probably one of my favorite things. The bus stop was about a five minute walk from our campsite which made getting around really easy. Overall, I would recommend it!

This location was easy to find and close to what I was planning to do during my time in the park. There was enough distance and nature aspects between other sites that I didn't feel on top of the other campers.

VERY clean area. Never once saw a piece of trash. Flushing toilets, hot showers (you pay for showers), a laundromat (not free) available at the shower house, and they shut the showers down twice a day to clean! There were multiple restrooms available throughout our campground. Not a long walk at all. I'd say all campsites in our loop had adequate shade. VERY quiet at night. Camped 2 nights and only heard a dog bark once. They had strict awesome rules that made the camping nice (like all RV generators shut off by 8:00 p.m. and not back on until 7 a.m.) Critters to keep an eye on: RAVENS. You can't leave anything out when you're sleeping or gone (food, trash, or water containers). Park attendants were nicely present. They were out watering small trees, and also seen herding some elk away from the roads and people. When reserving your campsite, pay attention to how close the neighboring campsites are. We managed to get a seemingly larger distance compared to others. Excellent communication via messaging, clear directions. GREAT stay and would definitely stay there again if ever in the area.

Worst National Park Service in the country thanks to the leadership of the lady in uniform hiding in the back office. She should NOT be in charge of a day care facility let alone a public park! Safety first! This woman is a threat to everyone who stays at Mather campground. Be safe out there!

Great campground near the Grand Canyon – highly recommended!

Super friendly staff and an amazing location close to the Grand Canyon.

Showers are available nearby at the entrance of the campground for a small fee, which was very convenient. The internet connection was also good with Verizon coverage, which was a nice bonus in this area.

Overall, everything was great – a perfect base for visiting the Grand Canyon and definitely recommended!
