About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

This was my second year of the Grand Canyon hosting the 36th annual star party event week. My responsibility and duties as a registered Grand Canyon Voluntee, was the enjoyment and fulfillment of engaging with the each visitor while there.
Being able to share with visitors, both old and young alike, who come to see the canyon, from many far away places.
Sharing my astronomy knowledge with them, our daytime and nightime skies, was fun and rewarding time.
While campers staying at the a Mather Campground, as was I. I found the experience to be very relaxing. Just being able to sit back. among the forest environment, while feeling a renewing of oneself with the forest and its peaceful surroundings of nature.
The canyon itself, of course, is the real reason. Being able to walk along the different rim locations and view each spectacular and breathtaking wonder. This is the greatest reward that any guest of the canyon can experience for a lifetime. It's awesome!

Mather Campground is so beautiful and a wonderful place to relax by a campfire, take a walk, ride bikes. The bathrooms have flush toilets and our site was pretty level. There is also a laundry facility and showers (Paid) and a Grocery Store close by. There were Elk walking around THROUGHOUT THE Park. We absolutely recommend and plan on camping here again!

We had Elks on our campsite every morning and stayed for hours. We loved we had a loop voor our RV of 30 ft. Our view was nothing but trees, birds, squirrels and Elks! And it was full moon, so stargazing over a big fire, we had a great time on the campsite.
