About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

The campsite was clean and organised. However, I was woken up at 7 a.m. by a park ranger, with a dog, as I was not parked where I should have been. I had arrived late and the bay was close to the road, and, as this was a rental car, I wanted to be extremely careful that no damage would be caused. Apparently the area where I parked was not the the correct area. Fair enough, but, if you want the area not to be used then mark it off with large rocks as is done at Joshua Tree. I will not camp at Mather or any other campsite in the Grand Canyon again. I'm a 67 old female (not white) - was an attack dog really necessary? Bit OTT.

Site was larger than expected. We loved tne wildlife on the campground itself and the closeness to the park. Enjoyed the free shuttle and the kids loved riding their bikes around the loops.

Be careful of the crows, they are a menace, and take advantage of anything left on table.

Great bathrooms. Great location for the shuttle bus to the visitor center. Shower house was clean, $2.50 for 5 minutes and the laundry was reasonably priced.

A lot of spots were good sized but many small ones also. Bathrooms were few. Just one for the loop. Ravens and squirrels were a menace but the Elk were fabulous!

Such a great spot! The two nights before we camped in other locations on other stops of our roadtrip and didn't enjoy it, so to come to Mather after that was exactly what we needed! It was so clean, peaceful and in a good location to catch the bus or walk. Highly recommend!

We had a great time exploring Grand Canyon. The RV sites were MUCH larger than what was shown on the website. Campground was not even half full.
