About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Nice campground. There were some majestic elk near our campsite one day. Bathroom is good, but the showers you have to drive to and pay for (at least from the site we were in). You also have to drive to get to the canyon rim. Very shaded from all the trees, so that was nice in the summer heat.

Bathrooms are clean, and the campsite is well kept. Shower facilities were good too, only wish that they didn't close at 6pm but could stay open during evenings.

The campsites are spacious enough for multiple tents. The shade provided by the trees is very welcomed. Parking is more than adequate. Closeness to the shuttle is helpful.

Campground was unexpectedly deserted last week of July. Though very peaceful most of the time the large dumpster trash pickup trucks came through the Oak Circle site at 4am and 5am on our 2 successive nights. Dropping, shaking, backup beeping, etc. Nothing indicated any attempt at doing this with the least disruption. Talked to rangers upon our exit, but stated that is their schedule to not be hampered by other vehicle traffic.
