About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Even though the govt. was shut down, Mather was open. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The elk were abundant; close and their bugling was nature at its best.

The Mather Campground was one of the best that I’ve been to. It had all the amenities for a family-friendly experience. The campground was clean and well-kept, it’s within hiking distance to the South Rim of the canyon, or if I prefer I can take the shuttle. The coin-op shower stalls and toilets are presentable. My campsite in particular had my own paved pull-in and pull-out driveway. The campsites were spacious and generously spaced out. There are hiking and bike trails throughout the vicinity. Overall, it was a great experience.

We stayed at two different sites in juniper loop. Both were really calm and close to the restrooms, very shaded. Elks were roaming around it was beautiful. Short ealk from the shuttle station. The whole campground is built in a way you feel really isolated. There was a picnic table and a fire ring, trash can nearby and a tap. At the entrance there is a place to fill water and empty the rv.

I have camped at Mather many times and I've loved it every time. I'm grateful we got to have a fire the first night we were there. By the 2nd night we were under Stage 2 fire restrictions and could not have one.
The bathrooms were cleaned daily and restocked.
It was a great stay. :)
