About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Great location; parking spaces are clearly marked and easy to spot, even when arriving at night; easy to find the place; convenient check-in. The only downside is that access to the shower facilities has a cutoff time at night.

The actual spaces themselves are ok. A little tight but not the worse I've ever seen. The sites are clean. And the bathrooms and spigots are abundant enough. Bathrooms are clean as well.
I never see hosts or FS rangers driving around much. But it was quiet. Except the last minute lovlies who arrive after everyone else is in bed.
I think tge place needs to flat out tell each guest no cutting through sites. They just don't get it.
One thing that I truly appreciate is camper services. They have laundry and showers. And a micro store. The showers are cleaned 4 times a day. And 95 percent of the washers and dryers work.
The only downfall is you only get 5 minutes in the shower. If you're a chic with long hair it isn't enough. They should charge .50 more and give 6 minutes. That's enough.
There are hundreds of sites here in different loops. All sorts of campers - van, car, tent, and trailers. Sites vary - back in, pull through, and pull beside.
All are reservation only.
Theres a very close by store here that even has fruits and veggies. Dairy and real meat. Extra supplies for camping and hiking. And of course an abundance of garbage "food".
And lastly it's right there at THE Grand Canyon!
I come here a lot. Recommended.

Wonderful campground. We were there mid week in July and it was not very busy. The elk grazed through our site in the early morning. They are calm and quiet. It is a very good place to spend some time exploring the rim trails. The trolleys are great. Everyone we met from rangers to store workers were very friendly. We'll camp there again!
