About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Beautiful campsite! They are a little close together for my liking but my spot was perfect - no one in the back or to one side. Nice tree coverage in the Pine loop too. Hope the water gets fixed soon!

The campground is great being so close to the rim. The pine loop was very quiet at night. There was no running water due to water restrictions but the portable toilets were clean. My only issue with our stay was the site 282. On the map it looks like 280 is missing so there is a lot of space next to it but 280 is there. 280, 282 and 284 feel right on top of each other.

Never a bad space to camp in. Plenty of privacy and the porta potties were very clean. Love the bugling of elk in the evenings.

The campground is spacious and clean—one of the nicest and most beautiful we’ve tent camped in! Although dry because the water has been shut off in the Canyon, well-serviced ports potties and hand-washing stations with recycled water were provided. The rangers were responsive and helpful.

A very well-maintained campground with adequate spacing between sites. Our only criticism: The campground operator should pay closer attention to the fact that many people with rental RVs leave their engines running for two hours because they have neither a generator nor solar panels. Hopefully, that’s not the intention - it’s really very disturbing and harmful to the environment.
