About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

We like staying here but the park needs to make others aware not to walk, run, play and bike through other peoples camp sites! 2 days we had kids running through are camp and adults walking through!

What a very nice and well kept National Park. During our week long cross country vacation we went to 2 national parks and this one was by far more well kept that the other. It was nice and clean, all the facilities were clean and well stocked. We really enjoyed staying here. We will be back!

The mule deer were wandering all through out the campground and it was delightful! Not nearly as crowded as I expected when I made reservations six months ago. Our closest neighbors were at least 3 sites away. Site was spacious. Very windy. The wind through the canyon sounds like the ocean. Clean facilities.

Well, Mather point is Exceptional. Mather campground is VERY nice. Everything nice about the area. Unfortunately, I booked the Worst site. Right next to the bathrooms and bunch of trucks behind our campground. There was endless traffic. Not, unexpected. Since. I was warned there would be traffic due to bathroom location. The thing is, we had this car that drove in at around 12 a.m. when we just went to bed in our tents. They were very noisy. Just sitting in their car all night. To make the long story short. It was not the greatest night sleep we’ve had. However, I have a feeling they had one way worse . So, it made me feel MUCH better. 😂Not only, but, everything else: The Beautiful Grand Canyon, The Wonderful Classy Restaurant (with great , reasonably priced food, and , exceptional staff. More than made up for a so-so campsite WE were at. Not to mention, questionable neighbors. The Mather Campsite is Very Nice in itself. Comparatively, large and private sites. In a great area. Right. Next to Mather look-out! GORGEOUS! Too bad , for us, I chose the worst site there is . Having said that, still had an Incredible good time visiting! The lesson? Book Mather campground by all means. Just Do NOT book Camground 026.

A completely different scenery from the vegas desert. Great hiking trails with some shade throughout, and caught sight of such amazing animals all around us. Saw almost the whole park using the shuttle, best thing for a quick rest between hikes. Learned the hard way that the Ravens will try to get into any and every bag left out so only note i have for the future campers.
