About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Bad Apple spoiling the bunch of good park folk there.

Unbelievable invasion of rights and privacy.

After being at a campsite in Pine Loop for a couple days, ( prepaid and registered for 5) a camp maintenance person by the name of Mark Adam videotaped (on his personal phone) the inside of my tent, around my tent, along with all of my personal belongings while I was out on my first day of hiking into the canyon. Some of my belongings disappeared this very same day.

When I went to put a report in for the 2nd time to add more items which were discovered missing, it was discovered that coincidentally, a camp service operator who works for NPS was at my site previous to the missing items being discovered but never mentioned it in the first report, where he was part of the conversation.

He displayed to me suddenly (and very close to my face) multiple videos of my personal belongings and the inside of my tent out of nowhere. I was shocked and questioned him. He said that he videotaped the inside of my tent “in the case that I was a squatter”.

Really?

I have never been so creeped out, even at free dispersed sites deep in the forest with coyote packs howling next to my tents, (which is what I now prefer) to creepy staff person Mark skulking around legitimate campers sites.

We loved this campground, even without hookups. We faced the road and it was not annoying. There was about 100 yards between the site and the road-with trees blocking. We considered it quite private. Dumping and getting water easy.

I would recommend driving to the watchtower for a different experience. Less crowded and great views of the Grand Canyon. It’s near the east entrance to the park.

The campground and bathroom facilities are very well maintained.
I had feared that due to the shear number of campers that campground would be somewhat chaotic; but with the layout design of the campsites, there is a decent amount of privacy and the other campers were respectful.

We love Mather campground, and was our second experience camping here. The campground and bathrooms are well maintained. The campsites have a nice amount of space between each other. The location of this campground is great. It’s a short walk to the market, bus stop, and showers. If you have bicycles the trails that are accessible from the campground are super fun and network all over the rim level. Overall the campground is great, just make sure you keep your food in a secure place away from the notorious ravens😆

We (Dixie AFJROTC) used one of the group sites for two nights. It was big, clean, and convenient to the store and campground showers.
The price was right as well!
The couple that checked on us every morning were super courteous and made our experience even better.
They were both Air Force retirees...Go Air Force!!!
