About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Mather was quiet and clean. The bathrooms were well kept. And the location is excellent for access to the Marketplace and the shuttle to the Visitor Center. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the level of freiendliness and professionalism of all the staff from the Rangers at check in to all the shuttle drivers and all.

The campground was nice, and the bathrooms and water pumps were easily accessible from the campsite. The showers were $2.50 (quarters or token) for 5 minutes, which made taking a good shower difficult. Additionally, the shower floors and walls were not very clean every time I was there, even though signs say they’re closed for cleaning multiple times a day. However, laundry was convenient and a good price. Aside from this, it was great to be so close to Mather Point and the village.

Sites and park are great but there was no host or cleaning crew to be seen on our loop. Our fire pit had 4 inches of ash in it and had not been cleaned out in some time. The bathrooms were not cleaned daily all they did was empty the trash and refill the paper products. One night the bathrooms were backed up and overflowing when toilets were flushed.

Clean and quiet campground. Bathrooms are well maintained. The only downfall was not realizing that if you have a travel trailer and pick a site on the inside of the loop, your door will open to the road instead of your campsite. We had some difficulty aligning the trailer so that it did not open into a tree. Will bring our E-bikes next time!
