About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

The campground was great! It was clean and the location is so nice and it’s easy to catch a shuttle to get to the village. We lived our stay here! The rangers were so helpful and friendly. They gave us pointers on how to enjoy the park and took their time to explain trails and sites to us so we didn’t feel so overwhelmed. I’d highly recommend staying there if you like to camp.

We had quite a comfortable stay here! The location is fantastic and it’s very easy to get the shuttle bus to do everything you want to do within the park. The campground was quiet even though the sites were all booked and the bathrooms were clean, though it was a bit of a walk from our site. The bathroom would have greatly benefited from some counter space and a few hooks. Otherwise, it was great!

Für die deutschen Camper :-) Sehr schön angelegter Platz inmitten von Pinien. Sehr großzügig, viel Platz, Schatten, Feuerstelle, Sitzmöglichkeit.

Einziger Haken: Duschen haben nur bis 17 Uhr geöffnet & sind ekelhaft. Sowohl Damen als auch Herren sind sehr dreckig. 5 min kosten 2,50 $.

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful 3-night stay tent camping at Mather Campground, and we cannot recommend it highly enough!

The facilities were incredibly clean and well-maintained throughout our stay. Every staff member we encountered was accommodating, friendly, and truly great to work with. It served as the perfect base camp for a wonderful Grand Canyon adventure.

If you are considering a camping trip to the South Rim, we highly suggest booking a stay here!

Great campground with loads of amenities. Be careful on the drive there and back - we had loads of deer crossing the road in front of us, daytime and nighttime, inside and outside the national park... as in most national parks: bring your own firewood.

Always a great time at Mather. It’s obviously busy but as expected being on the south rim. Bathrooms are kept exceptionally clean, lots of services and amenities. We’ve been there multiple times so we have our favorite sites
