About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

I stayed at three different sites on three consecutive nights. It was great! But some loops have better bathroom access than others; important if you're not in an RV. People were quiet and respectful. Some sites had tall pines, while others had scrub pines. If you're particular about any of these things, look at the map and photos. Otherwise, I love the community of a NPS campground.

The check in process was not super clear and because we arrived past 19h there was no one to ask about it - other campers were having the same issue. The showers were also not available after 19h which is not ideal, taking into consideration normally all campgrounds have a 24/7 shower availability.

Guys take care about this campground very well. Kudos for them! We loved how much space each site have. Restrooms were clean. I can only recommend to visit such nice place.

Bathrooms honestly were neglected. Dog food sat in the sink for 24 hours. Made the whole place stinky. Upon arrival- sink out back was off at first then they fixed it after a few hours thankfully I didn't need to ask! I got a spot close to BR for accessibility but there were so many paths along my site that it wasn't ideal, heard everyone flushing and walking back and forth. The hand dryers are kind of annoying. So, if you're looking for a quieter spot aim for further away from those bathrooms. It was walking distance from so much and I loved that there were stores, showers, and buses. I came early may, perfect camping temps!

Absolutely gorgeous campground. Despite there being hundreds of sites, it all felt remarkably private and natural. We stayed in the Aspen loop which was great - close to the bus stop and a short walk to the showers/laundry and the general store. We were nestled in some trees, and while we could see all our neighbors, we had plenty of space to spread out. Everything was clean, and the staff was lovely.

Great campground. We had site #80 and pretty spacious, semi private, close walk to two restrooms. Camp host was helpful. Laundry and showers are great. Shuttle service a 5-10 minute walk from campground. General store within 5 minute drive.

Upon arrival at the campground we were surprised to learn - No water, No campfires, No showers, No BBQ or open flame of any kind. The malfunction in campground water system had occurred weeks early, but Recreation.Gov. didn't see any need providing notice & warning so we - and the other campers - could adjust plans and equipment accordingly. One could assume their lack of motivation was due to the high number of cancellations that would have to process.

Grand Canyon as beautiful as ever, but 5 days without showers was bridge to far - we left our site early.

This was my second stay at Mather. It is so conveniently located and beautiful. My only disappointment came in discovering that the showers closed at 5:00 pm which quite surprised me as most tourists would be viewing the canyon well past that time.
