About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

My family of four stayed in site 110 in our travel trailer. The site was an easy pull-through site that was level. Sites were not too close to each other. The shuttle stop was about a 5 minute walk and the large general store under 10 minute walk from this site. The general store is huge and sells almost anything you’d need. Library and post office are right next door to the store. The laundry facility and showers were both convenient. Showers were really small. My daughter and I had to share due to her being so young and it was hard to move around but we managed. Campground was clean and well maintained. I would stay again.

If you're with a trailer, some loops aren't suitable. Juniper loop seems nicest with more trees and a bit more space between sites. Dump station with fresh water placement is awkward, and there isn't a rinse hose. Take some time to study the shuttle system. Once you get it figured out, it's way better than driving and fighting for parking at the busy areas.

Pine Loop was awesome! I have camped at Mather campground many times, and I think Pine Loop is now my favorite. No generators allowed, and when I was there everyone respected that rule. Quiet, peaceful, close to the village walking trails/ shuttle stop, well-maintained bathrooms. The ranger that checked me in was very nice and provided a lot of helpful information about water restrictions and other campground rules. Thank you Mather campground employees! :)

Rangers at check in were outstanding! I got to see a lot of them because I wanted to change sites. We were there for a full week directly across from a noisy super well lite bathroom. No night sky for us. There were lots of empty sites every night but people didn't bother to cancel their reservation. Reservations were full but empty sites every night. Park service needs to find a better way to handle this. Every day people were turned away from a half full campground. No exaggeration.

Check-in is smooth, and the rangers were incredibly friendly and helpful. The number of camping spots, amenities, and the size of the spots are beyond satisfactory. Was a very convenient and fun experience to camp inside the National Park.
