About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Wow hide your racism a little better old man! Literally had one wheel off the pavement and had two unkept grumpy old couple show up in ranger jackets and yell at me about having a car off the pavement. I was trying to keep the small loop open as much as possible so I got as close to the side as possible but that don’t matter to this guy. Meanwhile the camp next to us had three vehicle right next to the tents COMPLETELY off the roadway and he didn’t say anything. Only difference I could tell between us was how we looked but I’ll let you be the judge of that. Nasty facilities that look like they haven’t been cleaned in ages but these guys are worried about brown people on their dirt. Yeah I wouldn’t recommend this little hole to anyone. Just stay in town and then go see our beautiful wonder of the world without seeing those old “rangers”.

Had a great time at Mather CG. The campsites were nice, access to the shuttle was easy.
The only thing that was a bit lacking was the dump station and that I couldn’t find a recycling dumpster

Amazing area, had spot 222 on oak loop! Quiet neighbors, plenty of elk around at all times of the day, bathrooms are very close by. Nothing to complain about!

Loved the peace and quiet of the campground during non-generator hours. The stars were incredible. Restrooms were kept clean but people still bathed in the sinks! It would have not been an issue if they cleaned up after themselves !
The bus system is efficient and timely.
Loved sunrise at Mather Point and sunset at Hopi Point.
