About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Clean, well maintained campground. Easy check in. Nice paved internal roads and sites, each with a fire ring / grill and picnic table. Clean dump station and potable water fill area. Showers and laundry looked clean and well maintained but we didn't have to use them. Sites are adequately spaced for privacy. Public restrooms throughout the campground were clean and well maintained. Great proximity to all Grand Canyon areas. We will stay here again should we return in the future.

Was beautiful weather, unseasonably warm. It was in the mid 70s to 80 in March. The bathrooms were clean, well lit, and heated. Quietest campground we've stayed in, very peaceful. It was nice not to have loud music late into the night. Many elk around, amazing how large they are. The IMax was great. Fun time.

The campground is beautifully maintained, peaceful, clean bathrooms, available water, we loved it. The Grand Canyon is breathtaking, and we attended a ranger talk on March 23rd at 1:00 by the Geologic Museum on the South Rim. Excellent.

Lots of space between sites, clean and lots of wildlife too. We had 2 big dogs and it was great to have as much room for long leads. Bathrooms and showers were clean.

I come every year and love this place, however this year I felt that others were uncomfortable with my presence as a tent camper, alone among large campers with many families. Probably an adult loop would be nice.
