About Burro Creek Campground

The Burro Creek Campground (1,960’ elevation) is situated along the 57 mile Burro Creek in a transition zone between the upper reaches of the scenic Sonoran Desert and lower reaches of the scenic Mojave Desert. The campground offers visitors a variety of scenery including saguaro-studded cliffs along steep canyon walls that contrast Burro Creek’s dense vegetation and flowing waters that form deep pools of water just adjacent to the campground.  The campground accepts reservations for the group site, sites 7 & 9, and 10-17. Reservations must be made at least 7 days in advance of your arrival at the site. Sites 1-6, 8, and 18-23 are available on a first-come first-serve basis.

We had to leave early because of severe wind, but we always enjoy the scenery and quiet at this campground.

The location is beautiful and the space are far enough apart, but the entire campground lacks maintenance as they are overgrown and had several areas that were washed out. The camp host doesn’t live onsite. Several of the restrooms were closed and there is no potable water.

It is irresponsible for the BLM to close restrooms without providing an alternative such as a portajohn at such a popular camground in a spot that is the gem of the region. Requiring tent campers to hike out far away from the campground to do their business is not sustainable. We were warned we had to bring our own drinking water, but not about the closing of the bathrooms. Should be vault toilets anyway, not flush toilets.

Toward the end of March 2023 the water system was still not working. Both restrooms were closed and no portable toilets in the campground. Campground host had no information on when the system would become operational. Only those with self-contained vehicles or trailers with water and toilets are going to be ok. Dump station is "operational" but no water available to rinse out hoses or cassette toilet containers. Still a great campground, but the water system needs to be repaired OR installation of permanent pit toilets.

Nice place to go camping in winter but campground driveways are confusing. Information boards about local flora and fauna were extremely hard to read due to lack of maintenance and upkeep. Need better trails to the creek itself. Will come back though.

Great quiet campground with running water toilets. My group tent camped and found our site suitable for a couple large tents. There are a couple trails that can take you to the creek for a walk or to fish. We used this campground as a base camp for hunting. We had an overall awesome experience and would love to go again. The one tiny complaint I have is the small one way road that I had to drive around the campground to finally get to my site. But it was just a minor inconvenience.
