We stayed in the Elk Circle. Grounds were exceptionally well kept. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Camp Hosts were extremely friendly and made you feel at home. We had terrible thunderstorms through the night, and they came through and checked on every camp that morning. Tonto Natural Bridge is a short drive away and worth the visit. Payson is very close for any forgotten items. Plenty of elk and other wildlife in the area. Loved our time there and will go back.

I like the area but the showers have not been working for a while. The host only opens two doors in the area restrooms when there are four. Most of the times we had to wait for one to be available. The fourth of July weekend was very busy. The campground was full.

Our site that we had was clean and quiet there. One night we found some bugs in the dirt that glowed. Had even picked one up on a stick, but was hard to see with a flashlight. We are still looking to find out what type of bug that was.

It was awesome to see the rain, unfortunately we went on a weekend and as many campgrounds go, Saturday night noisy people partying till 3 am. The host claim they heard nothing. It's very close to Payson, but for what your paying for a little frustrating to have dump station closed as well as the showers. Would I go again? Definitely on a weekday, and only if this was the only option.

The whole experience was generally good. I've read other reviews saying about people not following the quiet hours rule. It was the same case for the Saturday night when we stayed there. There was a group playing loud music and chanting until at least after 12:30am. We were relatively far from them, so the disturbance was not too bad. We will still go back to Houson Mesa, as it's at such a convenient location.

We love Houston Mesa! It’s our favorite spot. It’s quiet, and the bathrooms are nice and clean. The only downside is that some of the Mountain lion spots can hear the freeway nearby.

Nice campsites with flushable toilets. Was quite warm so we headed to the Verde river to swim.
