About Ponderosa (AZ)

Named for the towering pines under which it sits, Ponderosa Campground is tucked in the rolling forests of northern Arizona. As the fifth-largest forest in the country, the Tonto National Forest is one of the most-visited urban forests in the United States, boasting about 5.8 million visitors annually. What Guests Are Saying

Ponderosa Campground offers spacious, clean sites with helpful camp hosts and well-maintained facilities, making it a pleasant camping experience. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful environment, despite some noise from the nearby highway. While some sites may be challenging for larger trailers and have limited shade due to recent tree thinning, the overall positive atmosphere and convenience to town make it a favored destination for campers.

Very comfortable campsite, we had more than enough space it actually felt private. The tall trees swayed with the high winds all around it, it was relaxing. This location is convenient to the Water Wheel trail to the west and the Mogollon Rim to the east, and everything in between. An easy drive into Payson for supplies, food, or visit a local restaurant/bar.

Lovely campground with well laid out sites. Big and spacious! We had a 32 ft class C Motorhome , tent and 2 vehicles. Not many people mid week October. Cool nights and mornings, lovely temperatures during the day.

Nice campground overall, but watch out for the NASTY Camp Host. We had the audacity to drive by her campsite twice when we were making a loop to check out the rest of the campground before we left. She stormed out in front of us making me slam on the brakes. She then harassed us about it while being extremely rude. I go camping to get away from people like that.

A beautiful area. The campsites are well maintained. The bathrooms were gross, but they are outhouses so it was what it was. My only issue was how close the campsites are to each other. We could hear other conversations all night.

Campground A5 was very nice! It can easily accommodate a lot more than 10 people and for sure 4 vehicles max. Had a lovely time. Host was nice this time around.
