What Guests Are Saying

Ponderosa Campground offers spacious, clean sites with helpful camp hosts and well-maintained facilities, making it a pleasant camping experience. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful environment, despite some noise from the nearby highway. While some sites may be challenging for larger trailers and have limited shade due to recent tree thinning, the overall positive atmosphere and convenience to town make it a favored destination for campers.

Areas where you pull in are not very level. The drives drop off and the camping area is not level. Not enough pictures of each camp site to tell anything

We absolutely loved this campground. The spaces are far apart, it's very clean, easy access to water, and clean restrooms. Flat area around the whole campground for walking the dog. Easy access off the highway and an easy drive to Mogollon Rim recreation or the town of Payson.

Despite having reservations, no reserved signs were posted upon our arrival. No reserved signs were put up in the entire campground until that Thursday afternoon.

Overall, a wonderful campground. The camp sites are spread out, which allows you to have some peace. Downsides to this area is you can hear the traffic at night. Vault toilets and potable water are present on site. The vault toilets were clean, though at one point the bathrooms ran out of toilet paper, so maybe bring some just in case. Bear boxes are present. Overall not a bad place to go for the cost, with a few downsides.

Campground was full on Memorial day so a lot of parties going on but everyone respected the hours. The host kept the bathroom clean. It was a bit noisy at nightdue to the truckers using engine braking. I did enjoy being close to town and the lakes. Overall it was still a nice experexperience.

A very neat campground. The host was super helpful as someone was in our reserved spot when I got there. He asked them to leave and they did.

Large open camp sites give you enough space not to feel like you're camping next door to your neighbors.

The Ponderosa Campground is very nice and convenient. It sits in a stand of large ponderosa pines. Last year they thinned the trees significantly, which has made the site more open and sunny. This will improve the forest in the long run and help reduce fire risk.

Spaces are narrow with interfering trees next to the spaces. Our site was steep. Couldn't get level even front jack completely retracted. Backing our 24’ camper trailer in was a nightmare. It took several attempts and the help of a friendly neighbor. I had to chock all four wheels to keep us from sliding down. Some of the sites are small pull throughs; get one of those if you can!
