Burnt Corral Campground

Great campground! Just watch out for the raccoons going in your cooler at night.

This is a pretty neat campsite right on Apache Lake. There are a cozen plus campsites that directly border the water. A great place for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and other water sports. I believe there is a boat ramp to launch motorized boasts as well. The road in can vary form time to time but it is generally fairly smooth enough to take passenger sedan on. Cant wait to make it back!

If hwy 88 is closed, you will not be able to access the site. Don't expect to have any notification that the road is closed either.
We could not access the campground because the Forest Service closed the road at Roosevelt Dam and there was no other alternative access point.
I checked the recreation.gov site the morning of the departure to make sure there were no access issues. I proceeded to drive the 2 ½ hours up from the Phoenix Area only to discover the road blocked. I called the number on the gate 928-200-1661 & spoke to Steve who said the road had been closed for a few days and was hoping to open it up in a day or so. That did not help me at all.
The campsite was also not accessible coming in from the West as the road was closed just beyond Canyon Lake.
The reservation had no other contact information for us to reach out to anyone at Burnt Corral to try and figure something out. After about an hour we decided just to head back home with our disappointed kids.
After I got home I jumped on the reservation system at recreation.gov to get a refund of the campsite I reserved only to have your system kick back my request saying I was unable to request a refund. It then said to contact customer service. Since it was after hours, I called the 877-444-6777 number at 8:20 am Arizona time the next morning 3/14 and spoke to Carolyn. She informed me she could not issue a refund because the system was not allowing her to issue a request. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She said that a supervisor could not do anything else, and that I needed to call back at a date after my scheduled check out to see if the system would allow a refund.

The weather was perfect, bathrooms aren't bad and staying during the week was much quieter than on the weekend. Got a little windy so if you're tenting (like I did) make sure your tent is secured. Make sure you secure your trash as well, caught a big skunk trying to get into the trash in the middle of the night. Other than that I love camping here! I've been twice and always reserve site 35.

Beautiful area to camp. fish and explore.
Somewhat disappointed in the cleanliness of the camp site, cig butts, bottle cap everywhere among other trash.
Fire pit need to be cleaned out, it was overflowing with debris.
Site was loaded dried with cow dung.
Camp host were nice but the maintenance of the sites were less than acceptable, for what we have to pay to camp their.
Lots of confusion with reserved sites ( not marked) vs. First come sites or other open sites,

The campsite is gorgeous. I chose site 77. It was perfect as it was close to the bathrooms, the host, the boat loading dock and the fresh drinking water spot. I have no complaints. The host was very friendly and helpful. Apache Lake is gorgeous as I kayaked for several days on the lake. I am glad I had a kayak cart as I needed it but you could also drive your boat to the dock area as well. We had a fire and the fire pit was contained and with a grill section. 4.5 miles of wash-board roads were fun so make sure your vehicle can handle. Use the website to make your site purchase, the Tonto Pass was useless. FYI: Cellular service is very minimal to NONE. I have Sprint and there really was no service for me.
The website was great too as it had site pictures so you know what you are getting. Thanks for a GREAT stay!!

A wonderful campground that is great for families. Plenty of space to hike, fish, and rest.
