Burnt Corral Campground

Stayed here Apr 12-14...nice time of year to be here. Temps were 65-70 daytime and about 40 overnight. Campground is beautiful with great mountain scenery all around. If you are staying with a group using multiple sites, down by the water is great because they are next to each other with easy access to Apache Lake. My wife, kids and I were by ourselves, so we took site 27...IT WAS PERFECT. It was a little more private. Parking was level and so was the tent pad area behind the parking spot. The tent pad would also be perfect if you want to set up a hammock or two. Has a standing grill and a grill over a fire pit. Closest restroom is an easy walk, but not line of sight so you have nice privacy.
Overall, this campground was in very good condition. Reservations and payment via Recreation.gov were easy. Great experience, wish would could have stayed longer.

We had a great time! The camp hosts were very helpful and friendly (gave our kids a craft gift bag). Since we stayed midweek it was pretty empty and we moved to a the 34H site which had a little private beach area. Our original site was beautiful but harder to access the water due to how steep the embankment was. Still a great site (amazing views!!)

Nice clean campground. Space was nice and roomy. Camps were spaced out well.

I was so nervous to take my Honda Civic here based on the other reviews, but my car made it through the 6 miles of unpaved road. The campground is paved, has clean bathrooms, has tables and firepits in each campsite. There weren't many people this time of year so it was pretty quiet.

Great camp hosts great camp ground

We made the wrong turn at Upper Burnt Corral, turned around and continued down to the campground. Easy to navigate and find our campsites. Campsites in good condition, I loved #13 because it was up high and I had a great view (although not high enough to see the lake). We hiked the Vineyard Trail near the bridge that crosses at the dam. Great views of Apache and Roosevelt Lakes, and Four Peaks, Mt. Ord, and the surrounding area. We did not use the water area, too cold. But we saw a band of about 30 coatimundi one evening. Will definitely come back when the weather gets warmer.

Our stay here at burnt corral was wonderful. The camp was clean and the hosts were kind, attentive and helpful. We got a small phone signal on the bench by the boat ramp, but otherwise there is no signal anywhere. Don’t be turned off by the 5 mile dirt road. It seems really sketchy as you go down it for the first time but after one trip you know what to expect. Just make sure the first time you drive it is during daylight hours.

I went on my first solo camping trip at Burnt Corral campsite and I am so happy I did. The drive in was beautiful and my campsite had an incredible view. The camp hosts made me feel comfortable and my neighbors shared their fire so I didn't have to build my own. It was a great weekend!

The composting toilets smell too much to be composting but other than that, this campground is a delight. Lots of birds and pretty vegetation. Very clean. A larger trailer is going to be scratched by branches in many spaces, but at the same time, those bits of shade will be useful in warmer months. Higher numbered sites near the water slope quite a bit. We were there on Super Bowl weekend and it was quiet by 9 pm.
