Burnt Corral Campground

We have been going to Apache Lake for about the past 10 years now. We usually go 2 or 3 times in the spring and 2 or 3 times in the fall. It is our favorite place to camp, except for in the summer, when it gets a little toasty. I have to say that Burnt Corral Campground was going downhill about 3 or 4 years ago, when there were campground hosts that did not care about the place. The bathrooms were sometimes filthy, with no toilet paper. Many sites would have groups of 20 or 30 people, with loud music playing all day and night. It had turned into a "party" place instead of family camping. Then Jim and Debbie came along. They were awesome! They sincerely cared about the place, enforcing the rules, helping people when they needed it, and making themselves visible and available multiple times a day. It has turned back into a place that you want to bring a "small" family group, or a good place for just a couples retreat. There was no loud music, and no trouble of any kind. I am sad to say that when we were there 2 weeks ago, it was Jim and Deb's last week. We sincerely hope that you find a replacement for them that cares about the campground as much as they did.

This is an out-of-the-way place that isn't out of the way. The only issue is the 7 miles of dirt road, with hairpin turns and you don't want to be on it when it rains. I took my 24-foot class C RV not a problem. Was able to get a campground along the lake. Beautiful. Great place for a couple of days of relaxation.

Very scenic and quiet. Camp hosts were very nice. Pit toilets were clean.

Campground not as crowded as we expected for a long weekend, well maintained and nice to see campsites on lake shore. Cliff dwellings near by are worth a visit. rare to find dwellings that anyone can actually walk thru.

1st: Campground hosts are the best! Very hospitable, they made regular passes through the campground and willing to help. We felt very welcome.
2nd: Absolutely beautiful campground. Well cared for. Campground and sites were clean and well kept.
3rd: We have a new favorite spot in Arizona

This spot is worth the drive. The fire years back erased a lot of the greenery but the entire camp is still in great shape. The campsites are mostly lakeside, shade is abundant, and all I saw have fire pits and a bench. The entire camp is spread across a couple hundred yards of a well maintained grove. There's a boat ramp that's big and easy to maneuver, and a dock which you can fish off. If you have a boat, this is the spot. If you don't, it's a paddle boarding or kayaking paradise. The lake was glass during the day. The winds kicked up pretty good at night. You also don't have to worry about raccoons or skunks like some other grove campgrounds (like inSedona). The camp hosts are awesome also. They've been the caretakers for years and it shows they take a lot of pride in the area. It's a good spot. Go check it out.

Excellent site! Very clean and kept. Our small SUV made the drive to the site fine but the weather conditions were perfect.

We had an awesome time at Burnt Corral though the lake was empty of fish (we heard it was due to an algae bloom). It was quiet and beautiful. We loved the path to Upper Burnt Corral which was deserted and we had a private beach cove to ourselves. However some irresponsible campers had not properly buried their waste which led to some upsetting surprises when our dogs found them... hoping that if we return, the beach will have been cleaned up some.

Camp hosts were friendly, and a good laugh. Kept a realistic eye on the place including being concerned for a hunter missing overnight, but he returned the next morning.

The campsite was amazing; my site was near the water and I had spectacular views! Not many campers at the time so it was super quiet! I think I met all the campers there and everyone was so nice!

The camp hosts were amazing! I had an unfortunate event happen (locked myself out of my truck); no cell phone service but the host had a satellite phone and was able to find someone to make the trek to the campground! Lifesaver.

The road to the site can be a bit scary but they keep it well grated and the views of the lake are jaw dropping! Bathrooms were ok... never a fan of vault toilets but they were clean!
