There should be a better description of the campsites on the website. Park-on-the-side-of-the-road sites are very disappointing. Mine was on an incline and there was no way to get my rig level. I had to move to another site. The firepit was full of old ashes & debris. The rigs around me ran their generators constantly so the air was full of noise & exhaust fumes.
At least the bathroom was somewhat clean. There's a solar panel on the roof but, no light inside. Bring your own soap & paper towel to wash your hands.

Great campground, great site. Did 6 day hikes in the area, each one beautiful and challenging. Lots of water in the side creeks such as Salome, Parker, and Sycamore. Hardly any people, and the weather was perfect: 70 during the day 30's at night. Because of COVID, the showers were closed and the bathrooms were not getting cleaned often, which was not the best, but understandable. The restrooms were still pretty clean. Some folks ran their generators outside of the scheduled hours, but it wasn't a huge issue. We will return.

Stayed in #51 for 4 nights. Probably the best spot there is. Very private and beautiful views. When we were there I would say the campground was maybe 30% occupied. Pretty quiet. Restrooms opened but no showers. There is potable water on site by the dump station which would have been nice to know so that I didn't haul 650 lbs of H2O there. The dump station is also open 24/7 which was not advertised either. That was a plus. Never did see the camp host. No tp in the men's bathroom. I would go again but probably only if I could stay in #51 again.

Cholla Campground is 5 miles north of Roosevelt Dam. From Mesa: Take State Hwy. 87/Beeline Highway north for about 60 miles to its junction with State Hwy. 188. Turn right and follow State Hwy. 188 south for 28 miles to the site. From the Globe area: Take State Hwy. 188 north for 30 miles to its junction with State Hwy. 188. Continue on State Hwy. 188 across the bridge for 6 miles to the site.

General
- Maximum stay limit is 14 days within 30 consecutive days on the Tonto National Forest including dispersed areas. During June, July, and August temperatures reach well over 100° and many RV air conditioners cannot keep up. Maximum trailer length is 32'. Extra (second) vehicle charge of $8 per night is required. An RV towing a car counts as one vehicle and a vehicle pulling a trailer counts as one vehicle. There is a maximum of two vehicles at a single family campsite and four vehicles at a double family campsite. An RV towing a car counts as one vehicle and a vehicle pulling a trailer counts as one vehicle. Fee can be bundled with online reservation or purchased on-site at fee machine. Maximum of 2 vehicles per single campsite and 4 for double campsites.Boat ramps are usable when water elevations are higher then 2,110 feet.Fireworks are always prohibited on National Forest Land.
