We had great weather with a full service site. Garbage containers were available. The road was dusty because of no rain and could have used a watering once a day. Other than fighting the dust, we had a great time. Looking forward to next year!

Always a nice stay. Please note that as of July 2020 the showers remain turned off. For those who have never been to this campground, there are 3 male toilets and 3 female toilets per unit. Of those three, two have showers included (the shower and flush toilet are in the same room). The water the water to the showers is shut off due to Covid...not sure of the rational for that, but at least the flush toilets are usable.
Cell reception iffy / non existent throughout Big Lake area, but as you exit Apache Trout Campground, you can pick up enough reception at the 4-5 large rocks next to the stop sign. Decent signal for texts and you can make a call (Verizon).
Nice/friendly folks at the bait shop/store. They have ice for $3.50/per bag (10 lb bag). They have decent selection of food, camping items, minor car products, sweets/treats, and of course bait, lures, various fishing items. Out-of-state fishing licence was $58 for a year...I believe it was $23 for a day. They do charge $3 for any credit/debit purchase, so bring cash or buy all you require in one purchase.

Family friendly. Kids can ride their bikes safely. Camp hosts are nice, professional and knowledgable; making for a good getaway experience.

Very nice in July. Weather is exceptional, campgrounds were clean and well maintained. On the 8th day of our stay, a guest arrived with a few other RV companions and immediately started driving around the campground in an ATV playing loud music from the vehicle. It took about the 8th time around before the camp host showed up and explained how things worked. No more croud noise after that. I was very impressed.

My wife and I have been camping at Apache Trout Campground for many years . The camp grounds are clean well kept. and quiet. A short walk to the lake. Very friendly people . The hosts are great. My only pet pee is that some people don,t keep there dogs on leash .

From Pinetop, Arizona, take Highway 260 east 25 miles to Highway 273 south. Follow Highway 273 south 19 miles to Forest Road 8115 (Big Lake Entrance). Turn right and travel 3 miles.
Apache Trout Campground is accessible via Highway 260, which is approximately 25 miles to the west, and Highway 273, which is about 19 miles to the south.

28 mi drive to downtown Springerville (about 44 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- Standard Single Family sites: Recreation Use Fee allows ONE camping unit ONLY. Double and Group sites: Refer to Specific Site # for capacity limits.
- FIRST COME FIRST SERVE sites must be booked in person. DO NOT call to determine availability, as they are only available on-site.
- Extra Vehicles: Cannot be paid for in advance - upon arrival coordinate with the host for payment and where to park.
- campers are not considered a "no-show" until 24 hours after arrival date check in time. Our policy is that your site will not be released before that.
- Opening and closing dates are weather permitting, please call 928-537-8888 for more information.
- Bears frequent the area; please obey all food storage rules and regulations. Check with your host for details.
