What Guests Are Saying
Choctaw Recreation Area is a beautiful and well-maintained park with polite staff and spacious campsites, particularly in Section D, which offers great views of the lake. Many visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the park and its peaceful atmosphere, making it a favorite spot for family camping. However, there are concerns about the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the lack of water hookups at campsites, along with some trash overflow issues.

This was the second time ever for me to camp at this lake and I can tell you I have no trouble going back. My son and I camped during the week so we’d avoid the big crowd. Only had a few issues. The first one was our campsite had a bunch of trash in the fire pit. Secondly the bathrooms weren’t very clean. Although I do know they cleaned them in the morning. And lastly, I enjoyed the quiet of the park till our last evening. A few folks around us decided they’d blare their music. Was quite annoying. Other than that the park was great. The front gate staff was fantastic and friendly and informative.

Guards were not as friendly this year, in fact kind of got rude with my son-in-law over parking at a gated, locked off area, claiming it was an emergency exit, when we have camped there for years and never has the gate been unlocked since it was blocked off to kept people from entering without going past the guard shack. They claimed they knocked on the camper and no one answered but there was always someone at one of the 2 campers because we had a 2 month old baby.
