Rocky Branch was clean, and the park host was very friendly and helpful. However, the amenities offered by the park are greatly outdated. We have a tent, and the campground is clearly not set up for tents. We looked at all the sites, and it was difficult to find a flat space. The improved sites near the swimming area had some improvements, but the picnic table was right in the center of the flat gravel area, leaving neither side large enough to pitch a tent easily. We noticed most of the sites by the swimming area had barely enough space for the families who pulled a small RV. There was limited space for the RV and the vehicle to easily park.
The boat ramp borders on very dangerous! We saw a couple of boaters really struggle with the steepness and the narrowness of the ramp. The courtesy dock at the boat ramp was very nice, but it needs to be moved over to make the boat launch area easier to use.......and safer!!
The boat ramp and launch area in the Day Use part of the park looked safer to use, but the parking was configured in a manner that makes it so hard to use. Boaters are constantly in each others way. There was no thought to a traffic flow pattern for launching and bringing in boats.
And the parking situation is awful, at best for the campground boat ramp. No thought to safety or traffic flow. So much attention is needed to make this area camper and boater friendly.
We will find other parks and campgrounds to use that are more user-friendly.
Other than that, the park and lake are beautiful!
