Plaskett Creek Campground

Good view into the sea, noise from traffic at night.

We paid for a big, grassy campsite with back-in parking. Instead, we found a dirt-only, small group campsite mostly on an incline, with no water close by and a huge staircase between the parking lot and the site. Not recommended

I love Plaskett Creek! It's always been one of my favorite campgrounds in California. I was excited to see the changes over the years to modern toilets from the old pit toilets. That was a real treat. Sad that there is a water issue now and we have to use porta potties! I noticed it has become a huge surfer destination and it is fun to see all the families with their children. For the most part those families seem conscious of the sacred environment, however, some are not and leave behind a lot of unnecessary waste like plastic and cans. I found trash in the area behind the trees at campsite 38. Bummer! I have been coming to this campground for decades now, since 1984, and have seen firsthand the huge amount of people who converge here now. I hope I can keep coming without seeing the trash those neighbors continuously leave behind. I love this stretch of the California coast and would love to see it left pristine for the generations to come. My daughter has been coming here too since she was 4 years old and also loves this place. Thank you for continuing the progress mindfully. Thank you to the staff who run a tight ship at Plaskett with love and consciousness. Especially thank you to the firefighters who continually keep this area of the coast protected and safe! I encourage all future campers to take all recyclable materials home with you to discard and stay away from single use plastic if possible. 2 nights in a row a generator was on from 6pm until midnight and then started again from 7am to 10am in the morning.
How do you expect people to relax under those conditions, the host should be penalized for not complying with your own rules.
I just simply don't understand how can you charge, knowing in advanced that you don't have the conditions to offer a relax and quite stay.

Camp host was super friendly and helpful. Views were incredible and the campsite I had was very spacious. Access to the ocean trails were super convenient and incredibly beautiful.

We love Plaskett, but the maintenance of the facilities has slipped. All of the restrooms were closed (at least the port-a-potties were clean). There is still no potable water in the faucets (what gives?). We were lucky that we brought enough drinking water. The drains under the faucets were all clogged, creating a quagmire you had to reach over to get water.
In spite of the draught, campfires were allowed. This would have been acceptable, except our neighbors built a HUGE bonfire with 10-foot+ flames coming close to tree branches. They ignored our concerns, and there was no one with authority present to monitor the situation. Finally, the reservation by internet system is a mess. Many sites are empty, but unavailable. I tried to cancel the last night of my reservation so someone else could use the site, but was unable to. The camp host could only tell me to go on-line, but there is no reception at Plaskett. So I paid for a site I could not use, and no one else could, either.
