Trumbull Lake

A nice campground. The host was friendly and accommodating. The spots are a little too close for my liking. So during the peak season you’ll have to put up with noise from kids.

Campground was well maintained & camp host was very friendly. Our stay was a blast & we really enjoyed exploring the area.

The excellent paved road up the hill is a plus. It was one of the quietest Eastern Sierra campgrounds I have ever experienced. Good water spigots. Campground host was a nice guy.

The camp host, Kimo, and the campground is the best I've been in. Pit toilets were clean everyday and sites were silent at night.

Nice campground. Campground host, 'Kimo', is very personable and efficiently manages the visitors, reservations, and the occasional objectional behavior of some visitors. Bathrooms are very clean.

Trumbull lake campground, in Humboldt Toiyabe national forest has been a favorite of my families for generations. They chemical toilet so much better than when I was younger, You have access to several lakes for fishing, obviously Trumbull, little Virginia, big Virginia, Clearlake, The frog Lakes, Blue lake, and if you’re up for the hike Summit Lake on the other side of the mountain in Yosemite that’s quite a track. Some of the cons are the trash people live in the campsite now versus when I was a kid, there’s no respect for the wilderness and I picked up hundreds of pieces of trash in their campsite. It’s impossible for the campus/Rangers to pick up all the little bit of micro plastic from people. Also look forward to people speeding through the campsite and kicking up dust and ignoring any Road signs. It’s 5 miles an hour and they’re slow down! You have a good chance of seeing dears, chipmunks, squirrels, a variety of birds. The fishing lakes are brown trout and planted rainbow trout. For those of you who are looking for Internet this is not the place for you, stay home. But if you enjoy the outdoors and some peace and quiet, Trumbullate campground is a wonderful destination with many opportunities for fishing And hiking. It’s not too far from Bridgeport or Levine or even Bodie the ghost ham.

We were not informed about Trumbull lake being closed due to fires in the area we also were not refunded for our reservation .

"Kimo" the camp host really makes this campground work. He keeps the guests in check, and more importantly, ensures we were doing okay. More specifically, he's always visible and I've seen him talk with visitors to keep their speed down through the campgrounds, ensures people are are accommodated for their reserved sites, ensures people are not on sites they shouldn't be in and advises where they should go, and happily advises what to do while they are visiting. Also, I never had a problem with noises during quiet hours. The sites are always kept in great order, current restrictions like fire restrictions are always provided as well. This is the second year in a row I've been there and it was a wonderful visit. Also note, this was during fire season where the South Lake Tahoe area was evacuated and all of CA's US Forests were closed outside of this area. I saw Kimo do everything he could to accommodate these displaced residence and campers.

This campground is located next to Trumbull Lake (1 of 4 lakes) about 8 miles North on HWY 395 from Mono Lake. It a few thousand feet above Mono Lake which offers cooler weather. The campground itself is great for fishing the small lakes (be mindful to use light gear as these fish are very weary and have had a lot of pressure), many hiking trails with commonsense restrictions on dogs (read: keep your dog on a leash), mature wooded areas, and close access to Mono Lake, the town and lake of Bridgeport, and the Bodie ghost town to name a few places. The only negative I have is the well-worn access roads throughout the campground, which are essentially dusty trails now. Access into the campground is good, but rigs over 30 feet may have some challenges maneuvering through the campground. Although you should have enough clearance, it's the narrow oneway roads that would be of concern. Lastly, this is a dry campground as with most US Forest locations.

Overall, I would recommend this campground.

We love to go here even if some sites are a bit difficult to maneuver.Big RV’s have a tight fit and should have a good driver. The inside roads could use some maintenance.Bathrooms are always cleaned and maintained.
