Fishermans Group

Lots of shade and the road/OHV noise did not reach out there. Saw some dirt bike tracks but no one came while we were there. There were bathrooms but no TP and trash receptacles (but try to pack out). Lots of ants in site 1 and 4. Water level was great. Trail to the sites were narrow due to the brush overgrowth but passable. The thorny bushes poked a few holes as we tried to pass. Saw very small fish in the stream.

Fisherman Camp Group Site used to be one of my favorite backpacking destinations. The location is beautiful, but unfortunately, maintenance appears to have been forgotten.
Let's start with the advertised bear box. There wasn't one. Our food storage solution ended up being half of a bear-resistant trash can. The other half was completely full of trash. If you're planning a trip here, be prepared to pack it in and pack it out, because there may not be any room in the trash receptacles.
The "comfort station" was anything but comfortable. The right-side pit toilet was completely full and came with a complimentary wasp nest. Both sides were filled with leaves and debris, and it looked like a fallen tree branch had damaged part of the fence. Our group unanimously decided that nature's facilities were a better option.
The campground itself was covered with leaf litter, dried invasive cheatgrass, and other debris, creating what appeared to be unnecessarily fire-prone conditions. Smokey Bear wants us to prevent wildfires, not camp in fuel loads waiting for a spark.
Wildlife was abundant. During our visit we encountered:
• 2 rattlesnakes
• 2 gopher snakes
• 2 Garter snakes
This area is prime snake habitat, so watch where you step, sit, and place your hands.
The site still has tremendous potential and remains in a beautiful forest setting, but the lack of maintenance is disappointing. Visitors should come prepared to be self-sufficient, practice Leave No Trace ethics, and maintain a healthy respect for rattlesnakes.
Would I return? Probably. But next time I'll bring extra trash bags, snake awareness, and very low expectations for the "comfort station."

The google map link is wrong and the hike is way over 2.5 miles. You have to go through green valley. To crab camp to park then walk through the stream.
