Great camping spot for our first time out. Grounds extremely clean with clean accessible bathroom. Large sites were big enough for multiple tents and family activities. Extremely enjoyable for entire family with nearby fishing and hiking. Highly recommend

GVL is a awesome campsite for families! So much to explore and do. There is even a lake for fishing and paddleboards. Also there's a swimbeach there too that we usually spend our summers at but this year it's closed.

Site #15 has a raven family occupying one of the larger Ponderosa Pines. This meant some (very) unhappy parents when the fledgling fell and small maggots falling from their nest all over camp. Upon arrival, all restrooms were out of order and no water was available at the spigots. The camp hosts did not come around to explain, we had to speak to site neighbors and work together to find a spigot which still worked. Rumor was that some toilet ran all night and drained the well? Not sure, since once again, did not get to speak with the camp hosts despite going down to their trailer to find out. Thankful the general store had jugs of water for sale and we only stayed 2 days. I love this camp ground and the surrounding area, just was disappointed in this trip.

Trailer camped here last few days before it's closure in October as I do every year. However, this year (2019) campfires, even in designated firepits, were prohibited for the last few days of the season. I had brought some different meats to BBQ but was forced to pan fry them over propane stove. Went to bed early every night as it was too cold to sit out under the stars without a campfire. Also, cold in the mornings until coffee was ready and sun had a chance to come over the mountains. A campfire would have made my experience more like truley camping. I think, since it was the last weekend, Calfire could have let us have campfires even if just charcoal. I live in these mountains and think fires would have been fine if camp host had just monitored their size. However, camp hosts were very helpful and nice. Hope the same hosts return in 2020.
