What Guests Are Saying
Hirz Bay campground offers clean facilities, spacious campsites, and a peaceful atmosphere, making it a popular choice for families and nature lovers. The proximity to hiking trails and the lake enhances the camping experience, with many praising the beautiful views and well-maintained restrooms. However, visitors should be cautious of poison oak, potential bear encounters, and occasional noise from inconsiderate campers.

The campsite was great. The restrooms were marked as being sanitized every day but they weren’t.

Nice campground, pretty quiet, spaces far apart, easy to get to, bathrooms clean and well-maintained. The only drawback--a big one--is poison oak EVERYWHERE, including throughout the campsites.

This was such a beautiful campsite! It comes with two concrete tables on a concrete slab, a fire pit, and a barbecue. It is partially shaded. It does not have enough trees for a hammock or a dog line, but we made do with our dogs. It has plenty of space for 3 large tents, and probably could have fit 4. Our tents sleep 6-8 people. It is close to 2 garbage cans, the water spout and quick access to 3 separate bathrooms. The trailhead is directly across the road from the campsite. The access to the water is a short drive Toward the Hirtz bay group sites. There is no camp host. The bathrooms are maintained daily except for on holidays. We were there during independence day weekend. There were only a couple fireworks on the lake that we could hear. If you need a store, you can drive north on interstate 5 toward the town of Lakehead. There's a small store and gas stations there. Or you can drive south on 5 toward Shasta Lake or Redding.

Site is tiny and blackberry bushes surround the paved area where a trailer or car is parked. We couldn’t even step out of our trailer comfortably due to the overgrown blackberry bushes. The “patio” area was small and in the sun. We ended up taking a friends spot who didn’t show up. Try site 22, that’s a great site.

This is our favorite spot in the whole campground, and we come every year for a family camping trip.

This is a favorite amongst our family and friends. The women’s rest rooms tho- the feminine waste container was over flowing And gross- not addressed during garbage pick up times
Please let your lands keeper/ evs person know to empty this regularly.
Thank you

Toilets down the road are vaulted but the ones by site 31 are flush. No camp host to get firewood from. MAKE SURE YOU LOCK THE BEAR BOX! We didn't lock it properly and ended up feeding a bear plenty of meat. Huge site, flat and has some shade. Has 2 tables, BBQ and fire pit and were all on a cement slab! Driveway fit a pop up tent trailer. Long and twisty 30 minute drive from I5 to campground. Quiet and peaceful. Not a lot of campers. Great place if you don't need to drive into town daily.
