The location and camping spot was perfect. The entire facility was much better then anticipated and our family is planning to make the trip to Hirz Bay an annual camping trip.

Clean bathrooms and courteous neighbors. No encounters with bears or raccoons, and my dog loved swimming in the lake. Overall great campsite and surroundings, highly recommended!

Nice campground, but we’ were there in July and it was extremely dry and hot. The Shasta Caverns tour was awesome and a nice break from the heat.

This was an awesome campground but unfortunately I have to give it 3 stars for two main factors, bees and bears. We had site 35 and when we arrived, it must have been on a yellow jacket nest or something. Hundreds of bees in the site, swarming all our food, it was relentless. We made the decision to move to another site and it was a little better but they still bothered us the entire weekend. The campground host was aware of the issue too, as a maintenance worker was attacked in a different site earlier in the week. It was frustrating that they knew about it but didn't bother to put up traps or anything in the sites. Secondly, the bear. There is a very persistent bear that patrols the campground at night. He came to our site 3 nights in a row and it was a big bear. Tried to get into the bear box, hitting coolers, etc. It didn't pay any attention to us or our tents but it was still annoying and somewhat stressful knowing it would come by every night. The campground itself is great. Really nice sites, very large, and good privacy. I would love to stay at this site again but something has to be done about the bee situation before I would consider going back.

Arrival & departure
- Check-in is at 3 P.M. and check-out is at 2 P.M.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Vehicles & parking
- Single sites allow one vehicle and double sites allow two vehicles, with a $12 fee for extra vehicles.
Site capacity
- The average maximum trailer size allowed is 30 feet.
Wildlife & food storage
- All food must be stored in the provided bear-proof containers.
- Due to active bears in the area, all food must be stored in designated bear lockers.
Safety & rules
- Poison oak is commonly found in the area.
Fees & deposits
- A fee of $17 is charged daily for using the boat ramp.
