I have stayed at the campground a few times this year with my boyfriend. The night of April 4th I stayed alone. I woke up at 1am to some one kneeling down on all fours one foot from my face looking in at me into my tent. It was terrifying. I grabbed my pepper spray opened my tent and there was no one. I think by the time I got my headlight on and opened my tent they had run away. I heard a voice near by, otherwise everything was completely pitch black. I immediately threw all my things in my car and left at 1am. I’m posting this to help other solo women travelers here. I don’t want this to happen to someone else. It was a very terrifying experience.

Really beautiful campgrounds with a gorgeous stream running throughout; we were in campsites 66, 67, and 68, and they were very quiet with close proximity to a small bathroom. Site 67 was definitely larger than the other two, 66 was a bit cramped. Campground hosts would swing by every few hours offering bundles of wood, which is super convenient. Would be smart to bring bug spray though. We would definitely go back!

Gorgeous campground! Just got back from 3 nights at Wheeler Gorge. We stayed in site 62. Monday night was practically empty of other campers and the other nights were very chill as well. We loved that site for many reasons. It's not huge but it's surrounded by foliage so feels private from other sites. You have your own path down to the creek at the back of the site and also an awesome little area perfect for hammocks which we coined the "green room". The path down to the creek is less of an actual path and more of a slightly steep journey down some rocks, so if you have little children it could be a bit treacherous. The creek is so serene and hours of fun can be had trekking up and down it. Lots of birds in the mornings and lots of frog noise at night, but we loved it! The only things that weren't perfect were that the area around the fire pit was rocky so you have to navigate that with chairs and walking in the dark, also there is really only one area to pitch your tent. We were able to fit two 3-person tents side by side. There is some Poison Oak growing all around as well but it's pretty easy to avoid. Might be harder for dogs or small children. Bathrooms were close (but not too close) and clean enough for pit toilets. There is no cell service at all but a short 10-minute drive down the hill gets you connected. We love Wheeler Gorge and had an amazing time.

We loved Wheeler Gorge. We stayed at site 61 which had access to the creek where we brought down our hammock and chairs for absolute bliss sitting by the water reading.

Had spot 42. Brought my 1.5 year old. Hung lights on the big live oak tree in the middle of the site. Lots of flat space at this site to set up a larger tent. We brought a 9 person tent with a foot print of about 18’x9’ . It fit perfectly under the tree. The camp host crew were great. Firewood is $10 a bundle so if you intend to spend an extra $80-100 on the weekend bring your own firewood. We were there mid April and the bugs were not bad. We felt comfortable enough to leave for a few hours with our site unattended because of the way the campground is laid out and the seemingly secure front gate. No issues there. Good spot for your family.
