Wheeler Gorge is highly praised for its beautiful location near LA, spacious and clean campsites, and friendly camp hosts. Families enjoy the creekside access, making it a great spot for kids to play and explore. While there's no running water and some concerns about noise from nearby campers, many visitors express their eagerness to return for another camping experience.

Beautiful setting. Dry and hot in summer. No running water. Some bathrooms out of order. Hopefully camp hosts have changed since September 2019. Previous ones were wonderful but the ones we experienced were not nice to anyone.

Our site was at a slant and not much room for a tent let alone 2. We woke up at the bottom of our tent as we rolled down the hill while sleeping. This was the worst site but our neighbors were nice and the ranger gave us a lot of info during our stay for next time. It was great to have a stream by the campsite to swim in.

The camp host was wonderful. Immediately took action when necessary. The campsites are spacious and provide both shade and sun for those who enjoy the rays. This is my home away from home campsite to stay at every year. Try the nature walk, it’s an interesting trail of woodsy to good old california desert chaparral.

Very well kept. Bathrooms were clean. We had a great time and the person in charge of the place was the friendliest man ever, as well as very helpful.
We will definitely come back.

The camp hosts were extremely rude. Every campsite around us was up past 10 drinking beers and the campsite across us even had children laughing and making noise. We were literally sitting down eating s’mores and watching the meteor shower when this lady comes up yelling, “we’ve already warned you once. This is your last warning to be quiet. Lights out. If we have to come back again we’ll kick you out immediately.” First of all, our lights were out since we were watching the meteor shower. We hadn’t received a first warning so we don’t know why this was the second and last. Also, the camp host was the loudest person there because every campsite around us heard her yelling. And I wish she would’ve kicked us out then and there because I would have had no trouble showing her what it was like to actually be loud and disturbing. The campsite itself was nice, but her people skills were the absolute worst. I will also add that the people around us continued to be loud and drink and stay up, receiving no warnings. But everyone else around us was white, so maybe that played a role. I will add that the silver lining in this story is that the next morning as we were packing up she drove by in her golf cart and wasn’t paying attention to where she was going and literally almost flipped her cart by driving into a giant boulder on the side of the road, not once, but twice. Right in front of our family’s campsite. Karma. Again, two stars because the campsite is nice. However, the staff is ridiculously rude compared to the other places I’ve camped at. Only go as a last resort if you can’t find anywhere else to camp.

I have been coming to Wheeler's Gorge for over 30 years with three different generations of family and I cant get enough of it. Its not too far from the city for supplies but not too close either. Very quiet and I was very happy to see such a high water level in the streams from all the rain we had experienced a month prior. My kids, ages 13, 11, and 4 always ask when we are going back.

There were so many gnats and bugs that made staying at the site unbearable. Highly recommend going with a canopy and net covering, otherwise not worth the stay. Becky and Bill were great hosts, though.
