Alternate between Wildcat and Coast Campground multiple times a year. Always a pleasant experience. Same day permitting process is easy for those spontaneous trips. Hiked to Wildcat via Bear Valley > Glen > Stewart trails rather than normal route using Palomarin (*road is under construction so check first!)
Challenging but beautiful hike, up over and down to the ocean.
Looking forward to next time already.

Having hiked in from the Five Brooks trailhead, I recommend not taking the Greenpicker or Ridge trail as there are sections of mud and largely overgrown parts. On the Greenpicker trail, there is a section of downed trees. Is it not officially marked or updated, but there is a short detour to the right of the downed trees. If you are going to take either of these trails, I would highly advise wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants and checking yourself for ticks occasionally. These trails can get narrow and stinging nettle and poison oak bulge into your path from time to time. Avoid these trails after a day/night of rain. If any Point Reyes personnel reads this, please use the money and send people to cut some invasive plants on these trails.
Site #2 is very close to the restroom and potable water. This site has some privacy but people using the restroom will be able to see your campsite. However, this site is well-shaded unlike #10 which is in the middle of the campground and everyone can see you. Had no issues pitching my tent as the ground was soft. Bear lockers were functional.

Unparalleled ocean views, gorgeous forests dripping with lichen. Greatest lighthouse you’ll ever visit. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff. An amazing wildness experience!

Sky Camp was wonderful, clean, well maintained. The trails were all marked well. My only complaint , was that the top of Mt. Wittenberg (don't expect a view) and the loop trail up there, were not marked well, but that was a minor issue. The park is amazing, it is managed and maintained beautifully. Please don't be a "no show" for camping reservations. Cancel if you can't come!! So many people want to enjoy it, and can't because of empty campsites. Just because you paid for it doesn't mean that you should be selfish about it. Cancel!!!!

In late April 2024 after setting up camp at Wildcat Campground, having hiked in from the Palomarin TH, day-hiked down the beach 1 mile to the beautiful Alamere Falls, visited, and back. Hiked down during the remaining ebb tide and back during the early flood tide, with the low tide in between. Consulted tide charts before the backpack trip to schedule my day hike timing.

With a moderate hike in to get to the campground, the location is just off the beach. Just a mile or so south you can visit the falls.
Tent spots are spread apart of privacy and the site was quite on my visit.

Point Reyes is located approximately 50 miles north of San Francisco and can be approached either northbound or southbound via Highway 101 and Exit 450A/B Sir Francis Drake Highway. Visitors can also reach the park via the longer and winding scenic Highway 1 or the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road.
Public transportation to the Bear Valley Visitor Center from San Rafael along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is available through the West Marin Stagecoach .

BACKCOUNTRY HIKE-IN SITE INFORMATION> All sites at Coast, Glen, Sky and Wildcat Camp are Hike-In backcountry sites that require hiking or biking in with camping gear for several miles. > THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO CAMPGROUND FIRES ALLOWED. > Charcoal use is prohibited, use only gas stoves for cooking. > Always keep all food or scented items in the provided food lockers.> Possession of a glass container on the water or in a vessel or within 50 feet of any riverbank, lakeshore, beach, on the water or in a vessel is prohibited.> CHECK IN and CHECK OUT: NOON > There is no need to check in at the visitor center. Keep a copy of your reservation number with you to present to a ranger if needed. > All areas in the park are closed to visitor vehicle parking between the hours of midnight and 6 am with the exception of visitors holding backcountry camping permits may park at established trailheads. TOMALES BAY BOAT-IN INFORMATION> Boat-in sites are ONLY reachable by Boat. ALL Tomales Bay permits require use of a boat, including group sites on Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach. > Boat Launch and vehicle parking for all Boat-In campsites are located outside of the boundaries of the Point Reyes National Seashore. ! A Wag Bag or portable toilet is required to carry out human waste for all Boat A and Boat B permit holders. > There is NO potable water on Tomales Bay for Boat-In camping- you must bring your own. > Possession of a glass container on the water or in a vessel or within 50 feet of any riverbank, lakeshore, beach, on the water or in a vessel is prohibited.> Boat-in Amenities: NONE. Except for vault toilets on Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach.> Food Storage: Raccoon- and rodent-proof food storage, such as bear canisters or Kevlar food bags are required. > Group Site Permit holders at Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach are required to camp only at Marshall or Tomales Beach. > Marshall Beach allows for two group permits at any one time.
