Point Reyes National Seashore Campground

Always a great time

Point Reyes is such a great spot to go out backpacking. It has so much natural beauty and interesting wildlife. You feel like you're a long ways away from everything when you're really only just outside the Bay Area.

Excellent camping, great location and facilities

There is some confusion about the trail to Alamere falls. The beach route is open but you should check the tides before you go. The other trail is dangerous.

Amazing views, well maintained campsite, easy access to the beach.

We backpacked in, starting at Bear Valley trailhead and spending 2 nights at Wildcat Campground. What a great experience! Parking was plentiful at Bear Valley, and much of the trail was shaded. You hike on a dirt/gravel road for the first half, enter a well-maintained trail for a bit, then emerge back onto a gravel road to hike down into the campsite. The last third-ish is unshaded and was pretty warm in the late morning. The campgrounds were in great condition, with concrete picnic tables and bear boxes. The campground had a single potable water faucet, trash/recycling cans, and probably some of the cleanest pit toilets I've ever seen, well-stocked with TP! We stayed at site 007, which was a bit small for us but if you only have 1-2 tents, it's perfect. Otherwise, it was a fantastic place to stay. There were elk, foxes, and coyotes that came into the campground at night, and we also saw snakes, dolphins, and even a few whales. The beach is ~2mins down the hill, and was mostly deserted the whole time we were there. We had bonfires on the beach (get a permit!) and hiked about a mile on the sand to Alamere Falls, which was super cool. There are other day hikes out of Wildcat, but be aware that many of the smaller trails had TONS of poison oak on both sides and were pretty narrow. Also, none of the campgrounds at Wildcat have any shade, so definitely bring sunscreen!

We will definitely be coming back at some point, highly recommend if you can camp here.

Nice experience backpacking in Point Reyes. Very easy because campgrounds have potable water and toilets, but the lack of cars makes them still feel remote. Saw lots of wildlife.

We spent 2 nights at a group site in Coast Camp with five dads and five 8 y.o. kids. Hiked in from the Limantour trail head along the 2.8 mile route with a wagon in-tow -- easy going and the kids carried their own packs. Highly recommend a beach fire permit. Lots to explore from that camp -- both on the beaches as well as on the bluffs. Bring binoculars -- we saw several groups of whales, along with elk, deer, and sea lions. Can be windy and foggy, but the camp is behind a bluff and somewhat sheltered.

This is hands down my favorite campground. It's absolutely breathtaking. Not only is it a super easy hike but there's pit toilets, potable water, picnic tables and trash/recycling cans! We had site #3 and loved. The sites in this area are very private, making for a magical experience.
Getting to the beach is just a few minutes walk and there's loads of tidepools to check out.
My husband had enough service to get some sporadic emails with Verizon/Google Pixel but definitely do not count on service.
