Point Reyes National Seashore Campground

This is the perfect easy camping spot. Its just a quick and mild hike in from the trailhead and a halfway point to the coast. This campground has drinkable running water, vault toilets and large bear-proof trash cans. If you're a beginner or want to enjoy an easier trip, this is the spot for you.

I’ll definitely be back. I went solo female backpacking and felt very safe here. The campsites up the hill (1-7) provide a lot of privacy which I liked. The stargazing and wildlife viewing are some of my favorite things about Pt. Reyes. I love that coast camp has a beach so close by. Watching the sunset on the massive Eucalyptus tree was the absolute highlight of my trip. I recommend staying there until it gets rather dark and you can see the lights from the fishing boats on the horizon. UGH, I cant wait to try another campground in Pt. Reyes.

Such a beautiful time in nature. Because sites are so limited, you feel so special to have the opportunity to be there. The sites are clean and the trails are well maintained. The whales gave us a show and I can't wait to go back!

Our night at the Wildcat campground was amazing. Being right by the ocean was so beautiful, within a quick walk to see Alamere Falls (though the tides were too high to go straight there when we visited), and it was incredible to hear the tule elk making bugle calls throughout the night. The facilities were excellent. Campsite 6 was superb.

The campground was fantastic - getting to it, not so much. This was our first experiment with backpack camping, and we'd planned to bike in on the Coast trail. However, due to traffic we arrived much later than expected when it was getting dark. I believe the maps say it is 2.6 mi "mostly flat." When you are packing, pack light because it feels much further, and it does have a few hills, including a wipe-out triggering down slope at the beginning and right before the campground. There are also only a few, very small signs. We didn't get to such much of the park beyond the beach and the nearest trail up the hill, and we never got to do a beach fire (it was windy, and wood is scarce), but it was still a good time. The tide pools are fun, and there were lots of animals - deer and elk, rabbits, skunks.

But I really wish that people who reserve campsites and don’t show up- would cancel their reset so others can use them!

Very private. Wind was bad one day. There are skunks that come out at night so use bear box. They didn’t bother us in our tent. Site 14 was our favorite at coast camp.

Point Reyes is one of the better backpacking wilderness experiences not in the Sierra. Each campsite has its own personality and the hiking along the Coast Trail is so special with its expansive ocean views and wildlife sightings.

Though the upper campsites are a little far from the bathroom and water sources, they are private and quiet. This was my son's first backpacking trip, and we had a great time watching wildlife at the beach! Very accessible for a 6-year-old. We can't wait to return.

We had a delightful 3 day backpack, staying at Wildcat then Glen campsites. The trails were in excellent shape, Bass Lake was perfect for swimming, and we enjoyed coming across the Elk herds and one fox. Thank you!
