Fallen Leaf Campground

Attentive friendly staff and an incredible forest and lake. The camp site was well maintained, clean with ample parking.
The bears add that authentic touch.
Fallen Leaf is our favorite place to camp.
A note: Getting a reservation is very tricky. At six months and one second before your planned date you must be ready to book a site. Even that does not guarantee that you will be able to get one. Somehow, others are able to book sites before the six month prior date. If you can't find one, set an alarm on REC.gov for the dates desired. If there is a cancellation you will be notified. Definitely worth the effort.

Fallen Leaf campground in the Lake Tahoe area is the ultimate campground. The area is kept very clean and inviting. including the grounds, campsites, bathrooms and trails. The campgroud associates and host work hard to keep the area safe and welcoming. Be sure to bring your bikes, there is a paved bike trail from the campground that will take you along Lake Tahoe so you can explore the area.

Our second time at this campground, we ended up booking the same site as last time. Beautiful pine forest, large campsites, walking distance to the lake and hiking trails. There are also many hiking trails within 15 minutes drive as well. Campground has potable water, flush toilets and showers, all facilities are very clean and maintained well on a daily basis. There are several resident bears in the campground and you will likely see them around. Please make sure you put everything into the bear locker and there is no food/garbage left around the site unattended. Let's keep those bears alive, if they become too dependent on human food, they will be euthanized.

Beautiful campsites well spaced away from neighbors. We brought bicycles which helped us visit friends we were camping with. Vehicles are not allowed to visit other sites. Nice showers. Great hiking from the campgrounds.

Our favorite place to camp while in Tahoe. We have been camping here for over 30 years. We love the improved bike trails now. So much to do and see.

Friendly and efficient staff. My only suggestion is that you should add an extra lane at the front station to allow reserved campers through at all times. The long lines of vehicles is a major problem for those who do not have reservations or need help. Also your day use visitation for the lake access should be posted at the beginning so that visitors know the rules. Fallen Leaf is a beautiful campground and my favorite, but trying to book a spot has become not so easy as before when I was younger. Thank you!

Select outer ring sites, the inner ring sites have little privacy. Bears come to visit frequently in the evening and the camp host have a handle on it. Hosts are very easy to access, friendly and helpful. Lake access is very easy and bike paths are clear and phenomenal. One can ride into Southlake, Tahoe and even into Nevada. Lake Tahoe is also easily accessed from the bike path as well as yummy restaurants.

The bathrooms could really benefit from hooks and shelving for guests to place or hang personal items, especially in the new bathrooms near Camp 147 and HOST. Adding these small features would make the space much more functional and convenient.
