About Fallen Leaf Campground

Fallen Leaf Campground is situated on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and adjacent to Taylor Creek. The south shore of Lake Tahoe is less than a mile away. The campground features 206 sites that include six yurts and standard tent and RV sites. The campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-October. Fallen Leaf Lake is less crowded and not as well-known as Lake Tahoe, making this a great base camp for exploring the many sights and recreational activities in the area. It's a popular campground and tends to fill quickly.

The most beautiful campground within walking distance to the lake. The employees and especially the camp host Jack were amazing: friendly and helpful. The added attraction of Lake Tahoe and a nearby great outdoor restaurant on the lake was a definite bonus.

Overall good time. We had to work with our campsite a little bit to level out the table. Would rather use credit cards to pay for showers than buy tokens. I have tokens left now that i’ll probably never use.

We had another great stay at Fallen Leaf Campground! Large sites with all amenities- fire ring, bbq, picnic table and bear box. And we did see a few bears- one early morning and the other snuck up on our friends while they were having dinner. Fallen Leaf Lake was absolutely stunning - clear and still water like a painting of a beautiful mountain scene! The camp hosts were awesome- friendly and informative! The bathrooms and showers were a short walk from our site and very well kept! We rode bikes down the path to Camp Richardson- had a cocktail at Beacon/The Grove and a delicious sandwich at the General Store followed by ice cream at the shop across the street- lots of fun! Make sure to really keep an eye on your kids if they’re playing on the campground road in front of the sites-people were driving way too fast for a campground unfortunately- we were camped close to the day use area. Cell phone service is spotty (to be expected), we did bring the Starlink and were able to get service while in the campground. Overall, great place to stay and very quiet at night while enjoying the campfire, we will be back!

Fallen Leaf is a large, very spread out campground. It was quiet at all times (esp at night). Access to the campground by bike or walking trail (e.g. to Lake Tahoe) is very good. There was no cell coverage at our site. The restroom facilities are kept very clean and are adequate. No hot water or mirrors in the building we used near our site. Be aware that you MUST use the anit-bear locker to store all of your food, toiletries and anything else that could smell yummy for bears. That was a problem for us as we (2 people) use 2 electric coolers. We had room for 1 cooler and a power station to run it in the locker. The locker was bursting by the time we bear-proofed our campsite.

General

  • Please Note: One vehicle per single site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicles will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground. Yurt fee includes one vehicle.
  • All campers must register at the campground entrance kiosk. Using the pre-check in will require you to check in with the campground office upon arrival.
  • Reservation holders must be present at check-in
  • Forest Order No. 19-15-01: Prohibits camping for a combined total of no more than 14 days during a calendar year (January-December), forest-wide. Visitors may book campsites annually but the maximum stay may not exceed a total of 14 days each calendar year (January-December).
  • No cooking is permitted inside yurts. Smoking in yurts is prohibited.Yurt rentals do offer electricity for the provided electric light and space heater. There are no additional electric plug-ins.
  • Pets are allowed at all tent and RV sites (a maximum of two pets per site); pets are not permitted in Yurts. No pets on the Beach.
  • The campground is available by reservation only; first-come, first-served sites are not available.
  • Maximum of six people per site and 1 RV per site.
  • Transport or introduction of aquatic invasive species is illegal. Please keep boats clean, drained and dry, and dispose of any debris away from all water sources.Click here for more information.
  • Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. For current fire conditions or weather closures click here for further information Fire Restriction  
  • Reserved Sites will be held until the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
