About Atwell Mill Campground

The Mineral King area features the highest elevation campground in the parks. At 7.5 ft (2280 m), it is only open during the summer months. It takes approximately 90 minutes to drive the long narrow, winding, largely unpaved road that leads to the area and its two campgrounds. RVs and trailers are not recommended on Mineral King Road and are not permitted in campgrounds. Mineral King is not connected to the rest of Sequoia National Park by roads.

Really great place - not easy to get to, especially at night, but absolutely beautiful between the old large giant sequoia stumps and newer tree growth. Campground was well maintained, clean, and large. Bathrooms were checked and stocked at least daily and trash was collected daily as well. Very large bear boxes provided which were really nice and a friendly team of rangers to make sure people used them. Only one report of a bear over our Labor Day weekend stay. Our group took over site 12 and 12a which was a really neat spot. Would recommend to anyone interested in the trek!

We had a great time at this campground! The tall trees AND stumps at our site made it a blast for the kids and we hiked the trail from the campground as well as the trail 3 mi up at the Cold Spring (I think) campground; both were easily accessible and very pretty. We found Silver City (again, I think that's the name) with the restaurant + playground and had a blast. The road (in the dark) was terrifying but we made it; much easier in daylight.

The Road to the Camp was worse that worst. Given the Location is absolutely far away from everything else in Sequoia National Park, the Road itself is in catastophic state.

Space really reduce, no noise control at all, we sleep there two nights and it was a nightmare, first night cross for us was a group of people chopping wood and yelling till late, second night a group of people arrived around 3 am making a lot of noise as well sooooo we didn’t sleep or rest there. In the other hand lote 21 it was convenient the bathroom really close.

There is a horrible construction going on right now on the street, so everything moves and you cannot camp in peace

Roads were maintained and campsites are taken care of. The bear box at my campsite was clean inside. The restroom I call the outhouse was clean and well stocked with toilet paper. My experience was excellent and I stayed there 6 consecutive nights. I managed to explore several areas while I was there. I’ll probably return there again next year.
