Azalea Campground

Convenience and easy to get it.

Beautiful campground and well tended sites. Nightimes were quiet and peaceful. No issues with loud or rowdy campers. The ranger was very friendly and offered helpful suggestions for where to tour inside the park. Only small complaint would be that I wished there had been restroom facilities on the lower loop where our site was located. The restrooms were quite far away and up a fairly steep hill when walking (not so bad when driving). Overall, still a 5 star visit!

My wife and I really enjoyed staying at campsite 31. It was near the bathroom and had a trail near it to go to the General Grant Tree. The only thing we did not like was that there were bees hanging around the campsite and when we wanted to eat, we had to basically cover everything so that they did not reach the food. There were bee traps hanging from the nearby tree, but that did not help much. For the most part we were hiking, so that did not bother us much.

We arrived at about 2p to the campground and discovered someone was in our site. They were out for the day so we were not able to speak to them. We then proceeded to the visitor center since there was no camp host. They let someone know we had no campground and instructed us to just find another. So after driving around we found one that could fit our trailer. We had totally set up and were getting ready to male dinner, about 6p, and then a family drove up and let us know we were now in their campsite. I drove back to our reserved site we paid for and the family still had not returned. We did finally run into a ranger who helped us find a spot that was not reserved. Finally about 8p we were settled and able to make dinner very quick and go to bed.
the family finally returned to our campsite and I let them know they were in our spot and our entire day was spent dealing with this.
I just wish there was someone going around making sure everyone was checked out and maybe putting reserved signs up. We were only at Azalea for one night and we didi not get to enjoy any of our time there due to us dealing with this issue. It was a bummer. We will not be returning to this camp site again unfortunately. The ranger who helped us was very friendly and apologetic.

There was no map to select campsite on line. I find it is harder and harder to tent camp because RV's are allowed to use tent areas. Overall, it was a nice campground but shower options were almost an hour away. Tent campers like to take showers too.

Beautiful campground walking distance to Grant Tree Trail. I noticed that most of the campsites are not flat. Stayed in #27 due to nearby restroom but will stay in another campsite next time that is more private and with beautiful views. Clean restrooms, good cell coverage. No host. We will definetely be back. Be sure to check the map in NPS website or else you have to hike to the restroom.
