About Lodgepole Campground-sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park

Lodgepole Campground is located in the breathtaking Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California's rugged Sierra Nevada range. Lodgepole is perched on the banks of the scenic and lengthy Marble Fork of the Kaweah River, at an elevation of 6,700 ft. The inspiring Giant Forest Grove and the mighty General Sherman Tree - the world's largest tree in volume - are just two miles from the campground.

Amazing! The most beautiful campground ever, straight out of a movie. The river runs along the entire campsite. There’s bathrooms and showers and an entire store incase you need anything it’s there. You don’t need to bring firewood there’s plenty lying around. The closest campground to all the sequoia trails. We saw a bunch of deer and wildlife.

This campsite is in a convenient location close to the restrooms. Campers do walk past the site to access the restroom facilities, but it was not disruptive and did not bother us during our stay. The only issue we noticed was that the tent pad was smaller than the advertised dimensions. Our 10 ft × 9 ft tent fit the pad exactly, even though the listing states the pad is 12 ft × 10 ft. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely reserve this site again.

It was our first time staying in the upper loop and we couldn’t have been more pleased. No electricity so the bathroom is dark at night, so bring your flashlight. The benefit to this is there are no electrical hookups for generators so it’s nice and quiet- tent a camping only. The bathrooms were always clean and well stocked even with a full campground. We will definitely stay in the upper loop again- our preferred part of the campground!

Campground well maintained, staff friendly and helpful, ranger talks interesting and entertaining, beautiful Topokah hike right from the campground. Sites we’re small and close together. Site 48 was across the street from the river and was a great location, however the site layout was akward. We were too close to our neighbors. Was glad to have our RV as e we get love there just wasn’t much personal space. River was gorgeous, clean and right there. Visitors center was beautiful racers super helpful. Appreciated the hot showers. Shuttle has two stops in the park.

This site is really close to the market/laundry/shower and visitor center. Also next to a river that was calming. We saw a deer nearby.
The site itself did not have much shade, but you can bring a chair and sit next to the river where there’s lots of shade.
Bathroom is about 3-5 mins walk away without a dishwashing sink.
Verizon had great signal.

It was great! Did not feel crowded, bathrooms were reasonably clean. Couple of hikes left from the campground and the shuttle to Big Trees was great for not having to park our car. The site (104) was a walk up, which gave more room around us, but all the sites were a decent distance apart. The river was so nice to have close, our girls swam in it after a long hike. We saw lots of wildlife and had a great time.

  • If your campsite remains vacant for 24 hours after your arrival date it will be cancelled and made available on rec.gov. You will be charged for the first night's campsite fee and a $20 cancellation fee, all other fees after that will be refunded. Recreation.gov policies apply to all reservations, cancellations, refunds and date changes.  Call (559) 565-4404 if you will be arriving 24 hours after your arrival date so your site won't be cancelled. To leave a message call (559) 565-3714.Upon making a campground reservation: Site occupants agree to follow ALL campground rules. Failure to comply may result in a fine. You are responsible for your guests. 
  • Quiet Hours 10pm to 6am- Music, talking, and generators should not be audible beyond your immediate campsite. Unreasonable noise is prohibited any time of day.
  • Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki . Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Visitors with vehicles over 22 feet in total length hoping to visit the Giant Forest or camp at Lodgepole and Dorst Creek Campgrounds are advised to enter via the northern, Highway 180, entrance to these parks.
  • Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.  Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger.
  • A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets.
