For those planning a last minute trip to Sequoia, you should definitely set a campsite alert availability. The campground does not have any walk-up campsites—any open spaces are considered reserved even if no one shows up. I was alerted by someone who grew up in Three Rivers to definitely have a reservation prior to heading into the park, and was able to swing it because I was staying mid-week. The walk-up campsites were my favorite. Happy as a clam tent camping near the river! Swimming access available directly behind campsite 100. The convenience of the Lodgepole ranger station for backcountry permits and the convenience store are also a huge plus for things like ice and kitchen supplies. I was very satisfied with my stay.

The campground is beautiful and the campsites are far enough apart that you get a sense of privacy for each group. It was a little upsetting that the showers do not open until 8am, especially since the sun is up at 5am and people like to get up and get going for hikes, maybe that can be improved upon in the future? Overall, it was a great stay.

It's awesome. The only problem I had was other campers constantly walking through my campsite to get to the bathrooms and water faucet. But that's not the parks fault.

Site 64 is close to the bathroom and shuttle stop. It feels more private than some of the other sites because there are no neighbors on three sides. Tent pad is large. Parking actually will fit two cars. There is limited shade in the afternoon. We were there in mid-June. Shuttle lines were long and they were not running shuttles frequently enough. We hiked from the museum to Moro Rock instead of waiting for the shuttle. It was only 1.4 miles one way and relatively flat, with shade. Bathrooms have no lights and leave a lot to be desired. Public showers at Lodgepole. Visitor center were relatively clean and above average.

I was expecting a deterioration because of DOGE but is was fine. I couldn’t believe how many empty campgrounds spots on Sunday night. The website usually shows everything sold out. Maybe you need a higher no-show fee so people can reserve empty spots.

212 is a large site, very conveniently located near two hiking trails. There's very little shade so it does get a bit warm mid-day. Also, if you're tent camping, it's a long walk to the bathroom

  • Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.  Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger.
  • A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets.
