Moraine Campground (CA)

Arrived Monday mid-day Labor Day for 3-night stay in Cedar Grove area after 2 nights dispersed camping on USFS lands off Generals Highway. There were less than 10 sites occupied in this large, open and pretty campground and oddly social parties were camped next to me on all nights so the place did not feel empty. There is a steep short walk down to the South Fork Kings River which is refreshing and good place to relax. Bathrooms are rustic and in need of modernization but adequate. Very nice to have $1.50 hot showers nearby in Cedar Grove Village. Campground is short drive to all major valley trailheads and sites. Widllife notes: saw small bear walk through campground in the middle of the afternoon of Labor Day Monday afternoon and found scorpion under tent when packing up.

Nice big campsite

The King River running by the campground is a fantastic place to take a dip. Just do it late in summer.

This site was big and secluded enough at night away from other people, but close enough to hear another group shouting and banging pots to warn off a bear. There was a Sequoia tree right in our campsite and the stars were beautiful! Highly recommend this campsite.

Great spacious campground. We were in Site 15. River was about a 5-10 minute walk from our site. Bathrooms we nice, and clean. Campground was relatively quiet, one party lasted until late in the night on Labor Day eve, but the thumping of the base was a nice background soundtrack to our stargazing. Highly recommend this campground in the late summer/early fall when the river is flowing at an approachable CFS.

We were in the 20's sites and they were awesome. The bathrooms were nice enough and the area was the best there is. Kings Canyon is the place to be.

Clean restrooms, potable water and near by hikes and river access

Gorgeous campground. Fewer trees than sentinel, but better views. We have a campervan and noticed that a lot of parking spots point directly at the adjacent campsite, which was a little weird, but not a deal-breaker. Some sites have (somewhat steep) access to King's River - if you're looking for that, aim to book a site on the river side on the west end of the campground - east of site 95 the topography climbs and it's more of a cliff down to the river. Bathrooms are clean enough, basic, and somewhat far apart. Water spigots are also pretty spread apart.
If you have a van or RV, the nearest threaded spigot for water refill / RV dump is Princess CG.
Bring a headnet with you to King's Canyon – the "face flies" don't bite, but they are annoying, and they don't care whether you have bug spray.

Glad to see Moraine was available this year! Very clean site. Loved it!

Good weather, great campground! Definitely would come back to this campground!
