Moraine Campground (CA)

Flat enough that it was comfortable for tents. Shovel for fire pit ashes was nearby, a little more of a walk for the spigot. Got to see some gnarly beetles. There are no lights so make sure you have an map of the place if you're around at night. Pretty quiet on our side of the campground but we walked by some people picking a fight with their neighbours one night. The other night, we heard three different car alarms go off, with honks and horns going at it. Guessing something attracted a bear visitor.

Lovely large campsite among the pines! And no cell or internet!! It was fantastic to be in the park - about 10 minutes from Roads End, enabling getting early starts for hikes.
Water spigot nearest the site didn't work. Bathroom was a longer walk than we would have liked, was not in very good shape, and had no lights.

Very nice area close to the river and the end of the road. We went to the end and walked to the river with amazing view, and also there’s a waterfall very close to the road between the camp and the road end.

Nice campground with restroom and running water. Easy lake access from the campground.

Wish I had more time to explore this park only did an overnight at the campground and there is so much to explore. Saw my forst bear in a mational park here sadly it was a trash bear

Bears are definitely present, but if you follow posted guidelines you should be fine; very nice otherwise

I used Moraine Campground as an overnight area to get ready to hike The Rae Lakes Loop. It is very close. We went during the end of July and the weather was very hot. I guess because of that, there were many camp spots available. The only facility we used there was the bathroom which was needing some help. Other than that, it served the purpose.

We had a great time! It’s a decent-sized campground with lots of things to see, including beautiful views, trails, and the river. You can also hike down to the river, which was really refreshing to cool off in after hiking on a hot summer day.
There are flushable toilets, but the toilet paper is so hard to pull out, and it rips easily because it’s only one-ply. One of the women’s restroom doors has no lock, so you have to hold it closed while doing your business. Our fire pit was in really bad shape and definitely needs to be replaced. Cedar Grove Village is about a 10-minute drive away. There’s a store where you can get snacks, ice, and beer, and they also sell some hiking and camping gear. There’s also a restaurant with decent prices and showers, although they sometimes run out of shower tokens. Last but not least, this campground is in an active bear area. We had a bear encounter on both nights we stayed here, so beware and make sure you follow all bear-safety guidelines. Overall, it’s a great campsite, and we had a great time!

Very spacious and beautiful. The river was refreshing and crisp! There was bear activity every night of our visit. Some more ranger presence would have been appreciated though we were ultimately very safe and had a community of other campers to help. Parking was mid.
